@@romanf5666 They keep production as simple as possible by minimizing the number of options. They started dipping their toes into after production mods with the ppf install and CyberTruck Accessories. By having a number of Tesla made or Tesla Certified options that can be installed in service centers, they can open up a whole new revenue stream while improving customer satisfaction by helping them make their vehicle more their own. That increased revenue can be put towards opening additional service centers which are needed as Tesla scales.

I just recently installed this soft close motor. I didn’t install the brass metal shim and unfortunately I had to use some force to get the frunk to close. Today I went back to my install and added the brass metal shim. What a big difference!!! You need to add the brass shim. Now I just gently let the frunk hood down, it touches the sensor on the electric motor and closes without force.

This is the first Tesla accessory on your channel that’s an IMMEDIATE buy for me. I honestly can’t think of why I wouldn’t. The price is very reasonable. Installation is easy. The product seems to work well. The product is very much useful for those of us who frequently use our frunk.
@RichardBrooklyn2 ай бұрын
Why you wouldn't? When it fails, you'll lose access to the frunk. And I do mean "when", not "if". This is like version 4 of the product, previous versions had major design faults which blocked owners access to the frunk when it failed. I doubt 4th time is lucky with this cheap crap. I even saw one website selling this telling the customer not to put anything "important" in the frunk if you fit this. Says it all really. Also the safety aspect of this. Getting your fingers caught there will be no joke.

Is there a fuse on the positive side wire? If not I would highly recommend putting a very low amp fuse on the positive line. This could act as a safety. If anything gets stuck in the trunk while closing the motor will pull more amps. With a low amp fuse you could hope in this situation the fuse just blows and nothing else gets broken. Really I'd like this product more if it had a current sensor on it that stopped the motor if the current went too high (something is stuck).

Excellent product. I would add that, since youre having to draw power from the battery, and have a way to detect when the frunk is open, you could add optional conection for a light strip, to have light inside the frunk then its opened. Depending on the endswitch you are already using, all it would take is a single conector! Great design btw. Very good engineering mindset at work there.

@-jackinspokane66483 ай бұрын
Thanks for the nice install review. But I want to comment on your suggestions. You cannot have the spring on the sensor too light or a contact sensor because when you open the front the weight of the hood is still applying pressure to the sensor and if it's too light it may just close again on you. Same thing with a contact sensor when you unlatch the frunk the latch is still touching the automatic closer sensor and it would just close again.
@ShivaSapkota3 ай бұрын
That is good point, thanks. I didn't think about it. Their new version apparently auto closes after a minute if left at that slightly open position. It won't close if you open the frunk within that minute but still supports the soft close.

I installed a similar product on mine. I noticed you still installed the metal plate part. I did on mine too. However, you didn't really go into the specifics of how to install it correctly. There is a curved bit on that plate that needs to be bent inward, which you didn't show. Anyway, if it is working for you, then I guess it is not necessary. Mine is working really well and I can simply gently let mine down and it will close. Yours is probably a misalignment somewhere...mine works perfectly so far. And if mine is unlocked and left as it for 90 secs, it will relock itself.

19:56 I imagine the mechanism doesn’t activate from such a light closure is for safety. Can you imagine the frunk closing on your finger when you didn’t intend to close the frunk? The gap when you close the frunk lid a little hard is not wide enough for a finger, but it is wide enough for a finger when you lightly close the lid.

Does it use a different sensor to indicate the Frunk is completely closed? I am having an issue with the Frunk sensor and I wonder if this product will assure that the frunk is closed.
@littlefreak30003 ай бұрын
I would be the reason Tesla doesn't have this feature stock is because of laws that require the front hood to be latched in a specific way and also for safety concerns cuz if your finger is under the hood when you use this motor the motor isn't going to know your finger is in there. Also if something is blocking the hood this motor might just keep pulling down until it breaks something.

Does still retain the functionality to pop frunk in emergencies from the front wires?

Yes, that doesn't change. The mechanism that opens the frunk is still OEM, this just adds a motor to pull the latch down (emulates pushing down by hand). Thanks

I bought this in January and did the install myself on my 23 Model 3. I just returned from a 5,200 mi road trip. The suction close worked great UNTIL it didn't. I put my duffle bag in the frunk and closed it. No Problem. When we reached our hotel 14 hours later, the frunk would not open. When I try to open the frunk with the app or in the car, you can hear the latch release but the hood does not release. I CAN NOT GET INTO MY FRUNK. I believe the suction device is holding down the hood latch and will not let go. It isn't the car, it's the suction device from Tlyard. There is no way to get into the trunk. Like I said, the hood is trying to be released but the suction is not letting go. I have no way to access the suction device....there is no manual release for the suction device. BUYER BEWARE!!!! I have a service appointment in July for Tesla to try to get in....I'm praying for an easy fix...... BUYER BEWARE.

Hey my friend, I am so sorry to hear that. That is very concerning. Did you use the gold piece that came with the kit? @@theDougAngleUse a plastic pry bar and use it to slightly pry the front open and at the same time hit the drunk release. When there is enough room to slide your fingers under the frunk lid, pull up. If it is still stuck, pull up while hitting the frunk release again. You may have to use a little force to get the lock mechanism to pull the soft close devices cable up. The soft close cable is probably holding the latch down. Maybe your electrical connections are loose or just bad. Maybe cut the connectors off and put on new ones. China is notorious for bad electrical connections. Other than that, you've probably installed it incorrectly and it is binding.

Yes its disappointing that tesla doesn't just include something like this. As for it closing just when the hood is down, the issue would be when you unlock the frunk the frunk stays down until you lift it and it would just auto close as soon as it opens. I'm sure they dont want people unlocking the frunk sticking their fingers in to lift it and have it auto close on the finger.
