Ghost hunting equipment is quite expensive and I'm not looking to spend hundreds of dollars if I can make it. I searched for videos on how to make a motion sensor music box but I can't read circuits and I just got a soldering iron last week, but I do like to experiment. I tried it out and it worked for me so I figured it can work for you guys! I can make another video of when the box is placed inside a wooden box once it's done. Price per unit is $18.88 plus tools and wooden box. Total price (since everything comes in 3 or more) is $33.46. Still well under $400.

I made what I named the Roe Paranormal musical coffin box. They took me a while to build as I had to source the parts. The relays I used were a nightmare to locate. Fabricating the coffin body was time consuming and this is where all the electronics sit. I used an N20 geared motor to drive the musical movement using a belt BUT the drive wheel pulleys I made myself using RC car parts. The sensor inside my devices will only detect human, all animals, insects, wind etc etc doesn't affect my device. My device has nearly a 5m operating range as well as 360° coverage. So if the device happens to trigger out on location either you didn't place enough distance between yourself and the device or there is another human around OR something manipulated the device to function. Good video, greetings from Taiwan, stay safe.

I actually was running into somewhat same issue when I was making my REM pods (newly exploring ghost huntning) and I too thought they were too expensive for what you see online so I decided to make it. I kept running into burnt bulbs everytime I tried to connect to power and it would trigger. I figured out it was because I was using the 3v leds. I upped it to 12v leds and fixed my issue. You may be able to make do without the resistor but if that is the only one you plan on making then maybe more for audience's sake. Good work though and I will probably implement this as this can see movement from a distance versus up-close. If one wanted to make it like a rem pod, It seems like it could be used in same fashion and just need the "door knob alarm" internal board to make work. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! I also have a rem pod video using the door knob alarm. I’ve also gotten more into the smaller electronics and will be doing a smaller version of the motion sensor using the IR method. I will be uploading soon.

Thing is, a binary yes/no detector of anything is not very helpful in - the 'music' is just a novelty add-on. Might be fun for entertainment value, but that's about the limit. Anyone who is wanting to investigate paranormal phenomena (even a little bit seriously) needs an analogue device that gives you 3 options: sound, light and a sensitivity setting. Analogue means the sound rises in intensity or volume, &/or the lights increase in intensity or scale. Then there is the question of WHAT it is actually detecting: 1. Proximity (capacitive), 2. Electromagnetic, 3. Electrostatic, 4. heat/temperature. Yours (using a PIR unit) detects movement based on temperature. These four things are very different, and if there were a paranormal entity approaching it might only affect one of these fields. Best bet is to have all three in separate devices if you can.

Hello and thank you for your comment. I usually use this music box as a trigger object or sensor. This is not usually used as an interactive yes/no device. The music helps distinguish which music box is going off since we have placed multiple devices in different areas. We have investigated three story buildings and it’s nice to know what device is going off. However, I do agree that is to the extent of its use and the purpose of the video was to show how to build a music box at a lower price to make it obtainable for those of us that want the tech but don’t want to spend our check. I will be posting other videos on how to use the gadgets we make so that they are helpful during your investigations. Thank your for your input.

@@specterspectators2591 Thanks for your prompt reply. I can see how, with the deployment of multiple devices, it could be helpful to know which has been triggered. But I am still concerned for the reasons I state above. Yours appears to only be sensitive to fast temperature-gradient change (which is how PIR devices work), and to no other parameter in the environment. Is the addition of an entire electronic 'music-box' helpful or necessary? Surely if you are serious in your investigations, it would be advisable to monitor other parameters (electrostatic, electromagnetic, vibration etc)? It would be a simple matter to connect simple (cheap) electronic buzzers to each device, so that by sound alone you can tell what is happening and where? My take remains that this is a gimmick for fun and play rather than even semi-serious paranormal investigation. My advice is to monitor every parameter you can... but to use very simple technology at the output. That's if you are indeed at all serious, or just having fun. Nothing wrong with entertainment... but best not confused with serious investigation, imho.

I’ve made two music boxes and one has an easier time to adjust than the other. The one that’s difficult is VERY touchy. I wave my hand approximately a foot or so in front of the sensor and make sure that it goes off. The other is the duration of the music. For some reason the difficult one’s duration is either very short or it takes a while to stop. I have to adjust it literally a tiny turn at a time. The other has a great range and I’m able to adjust it without a problem. I’ll leave a link of a video I found very helpful. Skip to 2:37 and watch until 3:49 for a great explanation on the adjustments. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJrRqHh_p6h0hrM

Ummm, you understand that a PIR sensor detects infrared (heat) energy right? so isn't a ghost or spirit supposed to be cold? if that's the case, what's the point?
@specterspectators2591
@specterspectators2591 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I’m no engineer or expert (clearly). I just like to do some research and build stuff that I believe would be helpful and share it with everyone. It’s a great question by the way. It made me dive deeper into how it works. Yes, PIR sensors measures infrared light. IR light is a spectrum we can’t see with our eyes. This is why we are able to see activity while we use the IR light on our cameras. These are my best guesses: As for the sensor detecting heat from a “cold ghost”, paranormal entities are not just cold. They can fluctuate temperature both ways. Another way it would be useful would be that since it’s placed in one spot and then energy or let’s say something cold goes by, the sensor is still disrupted from seeing only normal conditions. It has worked for me but not 100% of the time and this may be why. Thank you for watching!

@@timbabila Wow, maybe you should do some reading. infrared light is a type of radiant energy that's invisible to human eyes but that we can feel as heat. It has everything to do with heat. (PIR) sensors use a pair of pyroelectric sensors to detect heat energy in the surrounding environment.
