Hi Scott, off topic but I wanted to share some happy news. My husband and myself love animals and we suddenly were faced with a single male guinea pig "Stout" that needed a home. He is a gorgeous silky teddybear. We also are gearing up for a big move to Fl. Our research and just knowing animals gave us a heavy heart him being alone. Funny that we found you a few days ago and watched several of your posts, bonding guinea pigs were a great interest tho we had planned on trying to find him a friend after the move. Two days ago I ran into a lady, wierd, my whole life no guinea pig exposure and I get a rescue then this lady with a few males that need a home. We took the leap and brought "Hops" home. We scurried and set up a neutral space for introduction, had treats and a towel ready, and cleaned the new home really well. It went SO well. Thanks so much, I think, haha, now I have 2 to move 600 miles ❤

This man is so knowledgeable. I want to build a cage for my two young guineas. The cage I got is nowhere near big enough as they grow so I have a play pen they run around in all day and they just go in their cage at night. We have been planning on building our own and all the diy setups I’ve seen need wood and power tools. I can’t do that lol. Also he is super easy on the eyes and when he kisses their heads oh my goodness. 😍

Recently I reconfigured my guinea pigs cage and needed to get new coroplast because the shape was going to be different. I went to the hardware store and when I found the right aisle, I saw a bunch of yard signs on close out. What once were large yard signs for $12.99 each are now the coroplast for my new cage. I got them for FORTY CENTS EACH! (And Herman and Harriet don't mind their cage says "Drive like your kids live here" around the edges. ) :D

Thank you so much for this. I bought a two story rabbit hutch for my single boy a year ago so he would have room to bond with a buddy. They bonded and have been together almost a year now. The hutch had no bottom so I used chloroplast to make a bottom. Now I am making a new bottom the right way. I’m also going to make a cage like yours, but with a cover, for an alternate cage for when I am home and can keep them safe. Though I’m not sure where I will put it yet. I have dogs that would eat my piggies, so the hutch is safer when no one’s home. Plus the hutch fits in a room that provides more people contact with the piggies. The dogs can also visit them safely. My piggies love the dogs, they just wouldn’t be safe together in the less secure C & C cage.

Husband made the cage for our guinea pig (Bacon) noticed homedepot had colorplast sheets. Inside the cage 54x38 so husband having to make hand made one. Sure it would been cheaper to buy a cc cage. The main problem we have was that wouldn't be sturdy enough if our pit/lab mix would hit the cage accidentally doing her zoomies (chaotic already) would definitely collapsed. Cats (ones a chunk) that nosy or like lay on stuff. This way both be safe doing their zoomies. Think the animals more spoilt than us humans. Thanks for showing us how to figure out how use it.

So I finally got my piggies into their nicely sized C&C cages side by side since they fight. Now I have a new problem. They are both chewing the coroplast, one more than the other. I make sure they have fresh hay, pellets, daily veggies and hay based chew treats always available. Plus they each have a hay based hard tunnel-rack that they do chew as well. The one just seems to prefer the coroplast. I don't know how to stop them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I went on the internet and checked out all of the Big Box home improvement stores. Hands down, Home Depot is the best place. Their 4’x8’ coroplast or corrugated plastic sheets are $22.00 and some change. If you spend over $49.00, they will deliver the next day. Scotty, thank you so much for the video on making the cages. I was buying smaller size sheet of the plastic and having to tape. The cages just don’t last. The tape gets wet and the cage starts leaking. Home Depot’s corrugated plastic is white, however, with the sheets being so big, the only place to tape are the corners.. And they sell White Heavy Duty Duct Tape- so home run! Score!,,,, You are a wealth of information and I love your videos and your Piggies. Keep the videos coming. You are a National Treasure. Isn’t it wonderful that we can meet people from all over the US and the World. Watching videos about Guinea Pigs sure keeps me in a good place mentally. The News seems to have 24 hours of “Breaking News” round the clock and while necessary is a real Debbie Downer. Love all you Piggy People 🥰💗🐹 One more question Scotty- are your grids powder coated or do they have a plastic coating? I have a couple of chewers and I found the powder coated grids-14”, with 1” squares, for 92 cents per grid, which I think is reasonable. Has anyone found the grids for cheaper? Thanks Scotty. How did you get involved with Guinea Pigs? I’m 68yrs. old and I think they are the perfect pet for Disabled Senior Citizens, of which I am one. I’m all cripples up with Rheumatoid Arthritis. So Piggy’s are do-able for me 😇 Blessings, Nancy

The chloroplast goes on the inside. Grids exposed to that moisture would become corrosive. Watch some of my latest videos about fleece. I have transitioned away from pine shavings to fleece. But I still recommend killing dried pine or Aspen wood shavings. I have detailed information about this in the cage setup section of my guinea pig care guide on my website.
