Lets face it we all get days when we crave a good old shawarma but when you are trying to watch what you eat there is no better way than making a homemade one as you can count your exact calories without feeling like you have broken your diet or feeling bloated. Eating out is no doubt good but there are so much calories that this recipe will really make you rethink about eating a takeaway shawarma. So here is the ingredients:
1 kg 0 fat beef strips
Tortilla wraps
Low fat mayonnaise
Spices
2 onions
2 garlic cloves
1 red sweet peppers
Cooking spray
Marinate the beef with the spices and garlic, you leave in fridge overnight so that all the flavours are absorbed however it is absolutely fine to cook on the go. Note that I am not using oil to fray the beef instead I let the beef cook in its own juices. Once reduced down and meat is tender I add the sliced onions and peppers and about 15 sprays of cooking oil. This way I am making my shawarma as low fat as possible but trust me the taste is still great. I have used a normal tortilla but you can use low calorie ones and also I am using low fat mayo. There is also a very hot chili in there because I simply love it but you don’t have to use it of course.
You can even use pickles in your wrap, tomatoes whatever you like. I have simply used whatever I had available on the day. I made this for my family, my daughter loved it and had two. Try it and you will never eat out again.
