Great build! I would make a suggestion on your filter. would wrap some insulation around the bucket since it’s colder it does create a lot of condensation. I love the spray bar coming in it aerates the bacteria well. Keep up the great work!

Looks to be a cool build! Thx for posting! Q: Why not just cut the lid 80/20 that came with the freezer? It's already insulated and would be easy to move the hinge over leaving the "20" piece in place for the filter to sit on.
@paulleadingham Жыл бұрын
I think the idea is to save the lid just in case you revert the freezer back to it's original mode. If you are not concerned about that then I would say hack away.

Your filter design makes much more sense than others that pump the water to the bottom of the bucket and then it comes up thru the filters and back out the exhaust in to the tank. Their design doesn't make sense as far as filter stages and cleaning

That's pretty awesome! Will it work in the wintertime if stored in your garage? Obviously you wouldn't have to "cool" your water, but how would you heat it so that the water doesn't freeze, a heater? I know you do a lot of ice fishing so I assume you'll continue to use it in the wintertime.
@330Maniac3 жыл бұрын
It would have to be in someplace heated

I noticed a lot of sweating on the freezer system with the green filter 5 gal bucket. I plan on having mine in an detached garage where temps could reach 90 degrees in hottest part of summer. I see in the comments about insulation but not sure if that just ends up with moisture on the plywood anyway. Should I put the 5 gal bucket filter system in some type of tray to catch the sweating or paint the plywood or something else? Love the build process and plan on following it very closely as I build out my system.
@MrMrfreshbait16 күн бұрын
You could just cut a hole in the plywood and have a wire stove grate the bucket filter sits on so that any condensation drops back into the freezer. I typically use my tanks for ice fishing bait so Building up condensation outside the bucket is never an issue for me

If you have this in an uninsulated garage will it heat the water to the 53^ in the winter ?
@330Maniac3 жыл бұрын
Maybe if you had a water heater plugged into it. The probe simply shuts off the device when the water temp hits a certain temp. A freezer of course only cools not heats

@@330Maniac Do you know the directional temperature in Fahrenheit? I have seen some folks put it down below 60. Seems a bit extreme but maybe it depends on the time of year and the process of moving them to a bait tank being used on the day of fishing.

Would it not be better to pump the water into the bottom of the filter? Then as it rises up through the filter media the filter actually completely works; before the water reaches the drain toward the top, and drops back into the tank?? This filter design is not so good.
@sheaconnelly42878 ай бұрын
Oh my…why are you not adding glue to attach your insulation in addition to those bolts? And my man. You should cover that would with water seal before adding the insulation.
@330Maniac8 ай бұрын
No, you want the water to filter down through the top so it creates good bacteria in the filter below.

Why would you silicone the holding tank? Instead of buying minnows every year, why now breed and raise minnows, to always have minnows when you need them? Then that drain plug being stopped up would make it harder to change the water... and feed them and add a pebble bed. Would seem like the cheaper thing to do...
