Thank you for this video!! I love cooking but struggle with baking. Especially anything pastry related. Following recipes only take you halfway. I love that you SHOW what it should look like. And my favorite part about your videos is how you explain WHY things are done a certain way. Helps me understand cooking in a different light. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your truly wonderful videos! My daughter bought a Ninja Foodi pressure cooker/airfrier for me last Christmas. I have only just started using it with confidence since I found you on KZbin. Last night I air fried onions for Thursday's green bean casserole. It was really easy and they taste so good. Now I'm at your kitchen to give myself confidence with pie crust. I'm 65 years old and my mom is gone now, but I still am trying to measure up to her pie crust. Thanks again for the educational and oh so pleasant, and professional videos!

I hope you love the casserole and I'm sure your pie crust will turn out great. Just don't overwork the pie dough and make sure to refrigerate it for a bit to harden the butter in the dough before rolling it out.

I remember my mother in law telling me that cold hands make better pastry 😊 One VERY handy tip for rolling out pastry which works well, is to put your pastry in between two sheets of plastic wrap and roll it out over the plastic wrap

I remember an episode on ATK that they said to use an amount of vodka in the liquid. It will evaporate and supposed to give a flakey crust. I haven't tried it yet, but curious. Something else I do with dough, is to roll it into my rolling pin to transfer it to my pan instead of using my hands and let it roll into the pan, then help it to the edges. Also, use kitchen shear's to trim instead of a knife so you don't cut yourself. Just FYI. =)
@TheSaltedPepper4 жыл бұрын
Kitchen Shears!!! Brilliant! I did that today when I filmed the apple pie video, worked perfect!
@jilljacobs53193 жыл бұрын
Hey Miss pepper it's the same crazy lady that told you about the Vodka crest what do you do with any kind of bakeware that goes in the oven when it gets charred on the top and the the dark blackish stuff the carbon it won't come off anymore do you do parchment on top of that or foil or just throw that pan away
@TheSaltedPepper3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes that is from using a dishwasher and as long as the coating isn't coming off and the dark stuff doesn't rub off, I keep using it. If it's seasoned by cooking food, I also use it as long as the baked on stuff doesn't rub off. The only time I throw a pan away is if it damaged or rusted due to poor quality.

Great looking crust. Two questions, I hope you have time to answer: Have you ever put the dough into the freezer for 10 minutes or so, to keep it from being too dry and hard to work; and, what sort of footprint does the ninja foodie take up, regarding counter space? I love your work, and I'm using many of your techniques.
@TheSaltedPepper4 жыл бұрын
I think I go over the size of the Ninja Foodi in both of my comparison videos. I refrigerate it for 30 minutes, but I bet putting it in the freezer would work too.

Hello Salted Pepper, this is the best pie crust I have tried!! I have a question, have you ever used Vodka in crust when most people might use this one, or one with vinegar? The reason this lady told me about using Vodka instead of vinegar, was for more elasticity. I think it's because she like to have a sip or 10 to enjoy making crust lol!! Please let me know when you can, and please have a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving 🍷🦃🥧

I have not used vodka in a pie crust, but I have heard of it being done.

I never understood why when I made pie crust by hand it always came out perfect. But when I used devices that are supposed to be made to make the job easier, I got bad results. Louise knew what I was doing and thinking and had the answer before I even asked.

what size Ninja are using ? I don't think a 9" pie pan can not going into a 6.5 that is the size I have .
@TheSaltedPepper4 жыл бұрын
I am using the 6.5qt. The pan is a 9" pie pan from Fat Daddio, it has a narrow lip and fits in any size Foodi. Unfortunately, it's the only pie pan I have found that makes a normal size pie and fits, here is my affiliate link: amzn.to/3n5qmQ5

I'm trying to make a blueberry pie for the 4th of July using Wyman's frozen blueberries (love Maine blueberries). But I'm in a panic seeing comments of people saying the fruit pie crust on the bottom isn't cooking completely?? If I blind bake, then try to add the top I don't see how to press edges together? Ugh... I thought for sure I'd find a blueberry pie tutorial 💞

How come you said people do like aluminum foil touching there food? Jeeze I do it all the time
@TheSaltedPepper3 жыл бұрын
Some people don't like to use foil. There was some news coverage a while ago that cooking with foil was linked to Alzheimer's but it hasn't been proven and the Alzheimer's association does not support that claim. It's an individual preference, I use it.
