I have been flying with the welders glue hinge for the last year, cold weather and hot it does a great job and you don't leave gaps.

Cool concept. After watching, I could see how this could save a few grams in tape weight. And unlike the traditional tape hinge it should never let go like the tape will eventually do. Nice vid.

Great video, and an exception to the "light, strong, cheap; pick any two" law. Well done.

great idea. question, how long does it last, I thought hot glue will get hard and will eventually break after being bent/stressed ?
@juztizskihi13 жыл бұрын
I find that an easier way of spreading hot glue if to lick your finger so its abit wet then rub the glue once it is applied gives a nice clean spread and gives it a good finish!

I do the same but without the tape, just one long hinge, they do work great, that is what I used on my SuperFly and MegaFly and I've yet to have any issues over 2 years on the Superfly.

thanks nice clip.. what do you call Low Temp..? mines 70watt but seems very hot not tried it yet on anything epp but would like to if its as easy as it looks... cheers.

@sailorkid13 scotch tape doesn't stick to epp foam. strapping tape does, but it is overkill and heavy. blenderm tape sticks, but is expensive and only lasts a season. hot glue is cheap, light and strong.
@esobofh14 жыл бұрын
Could you not just cut a groove i the foam and bend the foam itself? i.e. in a 10mm piece of foam, cut a groove to a depth of 8mm and then have a 2mm epp foam hinge?

interested in how this holds up to hot days? looks very clean!

If you fly outdoors and you leave your plane in the sun the glue does get a little soft! but I have not had any issue with this kind of hinge.

Any reason on using Hotglue over Welders Glue? I've had great luck with Welders glue hinges as well...

Well explained. I have to do ths in my asw17's flaps. I thought that this type of hingles used to be very rigid. But you have shown me I was wrong. Thanks.

I am trying to make a model of a Japanese folding screen for a project with Popsicle sticks. Do you think it would work for that too?

Do you use your hot glue gun on high or low settings for these hinges?

Thanks for the comment! there is so much you can do with hot glue the stuff is amazing.
@wickedinsight15 жыл бұрын
i have tried this and yes its very strong, the only problem is hot glue is heavy so i rather use light weight hinges, plus this is for a light weight plane, will nto work for heavy and fast planes, but good video, thanks :L)

How many watt your glue gun?
@mfasouletos15 жыл бұрын
why not just use strapping tape? Seems less messy and I think I would trust is a little more. hot glue will stop holding over time, no? I never tried it so I really don't know.

It's also my opinion :) ..Sticking it with a tape is demanding and ..unreasonable isn't it?

Why do you need to use tape at all? Why not just use one continuous hinge and dont worry about excess glue.

***** most tape will not stick to EPP foam
@fc11339 жыл бұрын
sross148 Really? The tape he used in this video seemed to stick pretty damn good, ha ha. Besides, most tapes don't matter. All you need is one that sticks...
@sross1489 жыл бұрын
+Soloing 2015 no really, EPP will not stick to most tape. It may stick a little bit not enough for hinges on a plane enough to be safe. It will separate from the foam. but hot glue sticks very securely to EPP
@neavissa25839 жыл бұрын
+sross148 I have been flying Zagi wings for years and I never had a hinge come undone... Sure, they need some TLC, from time to time, and using hot glue will be "better", but so will having 50 billion dollars. Do you really need it though? : ) EDIT: Everyone else at my flying site also use just tape. And they have been doing so for decades...
@MrBeefreetwo12 жыл бұрын
i didit thx a bunch, .cause no tape i know sticks to epp.
