For the purposes of most of the techniques and builds in this series, the paper is left on. There are a few instances where guys have taken the paper off and applied the tape to foam. I find this inevitably comes off after time. Colored packing tape applied to clean paper backing left on the foamboard is absolutely permanent.

All I can say is WOW! This taping method is easy with practice and looks amazing. I couldn't believe it until I tried it. I love your precision and clear descriptions. Thanks so much for your contributions.

I don't know, check it out. It's a good price but the shipping probably hurts. I get all my tape from TapeBrothers. The quality is great, the shipping is fast, and the customer service is outstanding.

Seriously, this is so far the best and most educational channel I've ever seen. BTW I've been in the field of RC for 3 years already. Please keep up the good job! Bob Ma

You'd be surprised how much plane you can loft with that wing. Put 500 grams or more thrust behind that on a plane under 1000g and you'll fly fine. Any more power than that is bonus.

Ted, I have practiced yesterday covering 3 foam board for the multi-color effect for the wings, the white and green... I think I got white very well figured out, I don't get any bubbles and it's very smooth. But, once I start putting green next to white (for upper color), it gets a lot harder, you can see the darker color appears where tapes overlaps and then for some reason, i get these wrinkles when putting down the tape. I think I am putting it straight down, but it seems it's note..

I like this version better than the latest..however both offer different thoughts same views really cool video like it!!

It does take some practice. Dark colors definitely show through lighter ones, so some planning is in order if you are a perfectionist, as I know you are. You'll get the hang of it.
@TheOrangeWacko12 жыл бұрын
Tell me if I might be wrong, but packing tape is also lighter that Monokote. I have experimented with covering planes with Monokote and packing tape, and when measured, the same material and area weighs less with packing tape.

@MrWest1960 Good eye! You are right on - it's a 24" Rage'n parked in the sideyard, formerly so lonely for being underused now used daily for building since I got into RC. I can't post a URL to the CG calculator but I put the link in the notes. It's worked flawlessly for me so far. Build one!

Nice wings! I would like to just add a vertical stabilizer where the pusher motor would be and fly it as a glider.

Thanks Ed! I'll be building the photon and use it for FPV..eagerly awaiting your photon build video

Theoretically one roll would more than cover one large plane, but you'll want a couple of colors at least.
@FaTeDev_com13 жыл бұрын
I want part 5! I want too see how your joining multiple sections together or 2 piece wing. I'm currently building a Carbon fibre boom FPV plane and came across your video, I have depron so I'll be making my wing 2 piece each 60CM long by 21CM cord straight as in your own video.

Hi I admire his work inspired me in your technique to make the wing of my first model airplane the UGLY STICK used a lot less than the Depron segundário stuff but it worked was not at equal quality than your job but cheapened my work would have access to material excellent quality using but in the meantime I'm studying alternative materials to lower my designs thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Standard "Readi-Board" is all I've ever seen at the Dollar Tree, and it's 5mm thick.

Hi Ed, Someone on one of your vids was saying how expensive S&H on tape was. I found 8 (55yrd rolls) of green, 2 red and 2 yellow for a $1 each at an Ocean Lots store.

For folks shopping in the UK, I have recently found Globe Packaging on ebay And although they don't show a rainbow pack of tapes on their sales pages, I emailed them and have a 12 roll pack in 5 colours on it's way to me for £18 with free shipping.

EA, we have at least two things in common, we love RC'in and we both have a toy haulin RC building man cave...am I right? I own a 28ft pull behind Tahoe by Thor that I had used for about a year to do my RC thing in and loved it. If I'm not mistaken at 3:25 in your vid I am looking at the door to the front master suit. It's a small world after all for sure. I love your finishing touch attention to details...really nice work. I do like your canard design...smooth control. How did you find it's CG.

Hey Ed, I just made a 60x5" Armin wing, and was wondering if that would even get enough lift with an average/above average motor. It seems like I should've used a 7" Chord, but you know, laziness.
@gregzeng13 жыл бұрын
In my case, I used a very light spray of (red) flouresent paint (canned) directly onto the foam of a RTF model I have. Then used thicker fibreglass (self-adhesive) tape, clear.

With the cost of tape versus the cost of monocoat wouldnt the latter be the better choice pluss it wouldnt have all the seams?
@chipsterflysome12 жыл бұрын
Very nice and Very detailed. I went to Dollar Tree to purchase the foam board but the thickness looks much smaller than the board you are using. Do they carry more than one thickness? If so, what thickness are you using on your planes.
@jbtalley9811 жыл бұрын
That looks like a flat bottom wing- thoughts on how you might make it more of a semi-symmetrical or full symmetrical? I'm thinking maybe changing the size/width of the braces across the main line? Although the videos make it look like it doesn't really matter that much - you are still able to do acrobatics.

hey have u ever taped a plane after it was built. if not what would be the best way to cover a plane that is already built

Hey Ed, just wanted to get your input on HobbyKing's new selection of covering tape. They just listed it a few days ago and it looks to be a pretty good deal. What do you think?

Hi I am new at RC planes, so I thought I would be better off building my first plane and if I crash it I would be able to replace which ever part. What thickness board do you use?
@ScottCalkins9 жыл бұрын
He is using the foam board you get at a Dollar Tree store. It is roughly 1/4" thick. At $1.00 for a 20" x 30" sheet, you cannot beat it.

Monokote is awesome, but tape is definitely cheaper.
