How To Make A JACK-O-LANTERN Halloween Candy Pail Out Of CAKE | Yolanda Gampp | How To Cake It

To make my Jack-O-Lantern candy pail cake, I filled 12lbs of my rich Ultimate Chocolate Cake with Orange Italian meringue buttercream and covered the entire cake in Orange fondant. I even decorated him to look exactly like those candy pails you can buy at the dollar store - complete with a spooky Jack-O-Lantern face, and piled to the brim with my FAVE Halloween candies!

Question: why do sometimes you use round pans and carve into a sphere instead of using a spherical pan?? Love the show!

HollehMae I'm guessing it's because spherical pans are limited by size and it's just easier for Yolanda to build the height up with a round pan and then carve it round 😊

also likely because then it would be a whole cake instead of layers, meaning it has less filling and such and is likely easier to dry out in the process. im no expert so that may be completely wrong, but thats how i always thought of it. plus, im sure spherical pans likely require much more care and caution (and batter) than using regular round pans.

But it's a LOT more of a challenge, and you still have the size restrictions. Also, it's not as even a bake, but if you're starting out and find carving a little intimidating, using a spherical/hemispherical pan is a good place to start.
