A great experiment, and looking forward to your improved version ! A kneeling chair story from the early 1980s - a colleague in an office had damaged his back by falling off a roof - he had been a thatcher in his previous job so became office-bound following his accident. He obtained one of these chairs. After three weeks of using it, he had to give it up because his knee caps ached too much... The moral of this story, for anyone who makes one, is to make sure that the foam kneeling pad is solid and substantial enough to remain springy and comfortable throughout its life. Don't scrimp on the material inside the pad, because if you do, it will compact down and leave you with aching knee caps ! But yes - a great design that you have there ! Excellent work - thank you !

Looking forward to the finished design. Had one of these a long time ago and really found it restful when used with an appropriately elevated desk.

Love the design build approach over plans. I dont build anything to exact plans mostly just overall size and proportions. Like the stool, will have to make one myself.
@timwhite92555 жыл бұрын
I used to use one and loved it, but it has a flaw and so does yours. The kneeling pad needs to be wider so you have enough, i will go ahead and say it, ball room. The one i used was too narrow and after awhile it gets uncomfortable in the man area so i modified it out 2 inches on either side and made it adjustable. Trust me it makes a big difference.

I might have to find out about these, they look interesting. I have a prior knee injury, and bending/tensioning it like this could really help I expert (or be like torture, but worth a try!). I'll have a look for a cheap one online before attempting to make one. Or wait for your plans after the next model? Who knows.

Sweet. I know they help a lot of people with lower back issues.

@Ham Samson I used one before and your weight is distributed properly by the design. Doesn't really hurt the knees much even if there is usually alot of pain. I have a degenerative disk disease and severe RA and I find this chair to be very comfortable, but that is just me. I think it would be a worthwhile project with rewards for your Efforts. God bless Ham & good luck.

@Ham Samson I had the same problem, pain in my knees and shins. Then I read how I was sitting wrong in one of these, that solved the knee/shin pain.

@@WoodByWrightHowTo Just thought I'd re-visit this topic, as I was just recommended this video on the youtube algorithm. Worth watching for those considering the kneeling chair. I'll leave you to come to your own conclusions, I never got round to getting one, hope it helps someone thinking about it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXWrmKl5r7-Zd7M

Neat Project! I love the little tip about putting tape on your saw as a stop. Looking forward to seeing this as a plan we can buy and try. Seems like it would be an intermediate to advanced hand tool project?

Awesome! Would some of the joinery not be easier if you make the parts octagonal after the joinery was made? Also, who else was glad to see James like it so much he put a ring on it? 😏

This one was more or less a prototype. I've got a bunch of other changes I want to make to it and once I get it down I'll have plans for it. This one was more or less built off the top of my head.

Are you going to share the plans - even if it’s just a prototype? This could be a practical and fun build. The octagon makes it look even greater than just square rails/posts/legs. Great job !!!

@WoodByWrightHowTo3 жыл бұрын
This one was a prototype. One of these days I will build one and create a detailed video. The green puffy stuff is chair foam The blue leathery stuff is blue leathery stuff from the fabric store.

My grandma had a kneeling chair, not home made though, when I was a kid.
@8thsinner3 жыл бұрын
I would have questions about this, I can see the benefits of the angle of this but how would you go about making one with a kind of box under the seat at least 8.5 inches width it's base but with a slot or hole on top so that you can use it to meditate directly over an orgonite pyramid for emf protection whilst at the computer? the pyramid would have to be about to rotate actually, so maybe 9" wide. But also the base has to be level, ie parallel to the ground.
