This channel is a great find during quarantine! Already ordered my leather craft tools and some cheap leather to start with! I've watched lots of your old videos already but the narration and explanation really makes a difference. I'm a real estate agent at the moment but who knows. Maybe my future will be crafted with leather. Keep up the good work! I love the doc martens look-alike thread combination. Whether you intended it or not! Your content is truly, high quality. Thank you so much!

Hey! I'm just getting into leathering and I just bought some leather for the first time and I'm about to make this! I really like the design and I appreciate it being free. I really like that video you made using no tools because I could use that as a reference lol since I don't have any legit tools.

How did it go? Any challenges?
@David-bf6vt3 жыл бұрын
@@rorisxng lol for my first one there were mistakes. make sure you get like 3-3.5 oz leather so it's not too thick and that the measurements are exact.
@rorisxng3 жыл бұрын
@@David-bf6vt thank you for taking the time to reply. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so trial and error doesn’t come easily to me but I’m really beginning to understand that I’m going to make some mistakes initially and that’s okay. I just need to start and I’ll improve with each project.

Hi!! Thanks for the video and the pattern. I finished mine yesterday....it turned out better than I expected. (I had a good sized piece of belly that worked great.) Both the card (made with 4) and cash slots fit perfectly. I finished it with 50-50 bees and parrafin wax. It looks and smells great. Maybe someone can help me...I have trouble finishing the edges ...especially the thin card slots. Does anyone have a tip for burnishing/finishing these slim pieces? PS: I gave it away today to a worker at the lumber store who always helps me. Now I will make another one with burnishing tips and red stitching. THANKS AGAIN!!

The problem I’ve had with leather craft has been the actual cutting part. I’ve only been doing it for a couple weeks and I made a wallet already. Not a great one I might add lol but I think I just bought too thick of leather to begin with. Cutting with my exacto knife hasn’t been too great. I will keep trying bc I really wanna learn all of this but is there any tips you may have?
@Corter4 жыл бұрын
lots and lots of practice, and a sharp blade! Get the junkiest leather you can and just practice cutting over and over and over, that's how I learned!
@JahazielCastillo4 жыл бұрын

Love the commentary. Just a quick question - I noticed that for this wallet you didn't skive down all of your pockets as you did with your other one. Any reason behind that? Which of the edges should you bevel on this wallet? I find it difficult to get a nice bevel with such thin leather.

Could I possibly just sand instead of skiving? My skiving knife doesn't seem to be sharp enough to do that good of a job. Also I purchased a wallet few years back where they said they buffed the inside with glass. Thought that was a really nice touch!

Also is there any advantage to using a stitch groover? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you use it. Thanks
@Corter4 жыл бұрын
there can be! It buries the stitch in some leathers to prevent abrasion during use. We don't use them, the leather we use is normally too thin

Almost done with this wallet just need to stitch and finish my edges. I'm wondering if there's a better spot to start my stitching or if it really doesn't matter

can someone tell me what size of thread he is using ?? i am new to leather craft and i ordered myself 3mm hole punch, and also 0.80 mm flat thread, and i realized its not gonna look good, i am suppose to used much thinner thread for smaller hole punch ?
@Corter4 жыл бұрын
We're using .6mm thread with 5mm spi irons. .8mm will be bulky for a 3mm iron, you'll want to go .6mm or .4mm :) A good rule of thumb is the lower your SPI, the thinner you'll need to go with thread
