How to make a leather handle wrap grip on a Longbow - DIY bow handles

We show you some of the handle wrapping methods used to make a leather handle on an English Longbow, we sell the leather wrap on our website, link below if you want to have a go and develop your longbow making skills, there is something about adding a handle that completes the look of a bow, its part of the bowyers art. We finish off our handles using gold leaf trim made using Victorian pattern wheels, we do not sell this material as its unique to our Longbows. You could use this basic method on other bows like AFB, Warbows or whatever you like.

Thanks for the great and informative video. One question, though: is the handle area wrapped in masking tape before you glue the leather on? So you are gluing it to tape and not wood? Thanks!

Glad you liked the video. Yes, sometimes we use tape as it provides a better grip for the glue than the wood.

Richard, your burned in insignia, or coat of arms, or whatever it may be called? Where might a fellow buy something like the tool you used?

it's a 'branding iron' I don't know specifically of a supplier

There's a company in Kent that makes such stamps/branding iron, but if you look up letter stamp makers you should find one capable of producing monogram or name stamp/branding iron for you 🙂 They typically craft stamps for wax letter seals.
