I agree with Andy Birkey’s comment. This was a perfect video for KZbin. It told a story, created an interesting item, stayed in a reasonable timeframe and provides a bit of mystery to hold viewer interest. All while showing the viewer “how to make a pirate map”. Well done sir, well played.

Nice video! Loved the detailing. If you choose to do it again, I have an idea for further details to give it a more "authentic" look. The edge of the map was too "clean", it would give it some extra, if it was "flossed" like it had been in heavy use for years and looked worn. I think this could be achieved with a grading iron - or what it's called (the kitchen tool for ripping up vegetables).

Quel chouette rendu ! Est-ce que tu recommandes une température particulière pour le pyrograveur ? J'imagine que ça dépend du type de cuir etc, mais faut -il éviter un certain degrés ? Merci d'avance !
@RedSmithWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Merci !

Very nice work. I am going to try one of these but carving and tooling instead of burning. Q: It wasn't obvious to me where the X marks the spot treasure location was, unless it was the second compass point where the radiating bearings intersected the main compass bearing lines. Or maybe this was not a specific treasure map, just a more general map a Pirate captain might have. Anyway, very nice work. I would be interested in where you found the various maps you used as a template. Thanks for sharing.

How large of a map can you do? We have a print out on our wall that looks like trash tbh and I wanted to get my wife a real leather world map to replace it for our 3 year anniversary.
@RedSmithWorkshop6 жыл бұрын
I can only make a map as large as the hide I can find. They are usually 1.8 square meter but cutting a rectangle out of is would reduce the size. I think I could do a map twice or three time bigger than the one you saw in the video.
@carsonburkhart64226 жыл бұрын
The Redsmith what about something like 55"x88"?
@RedSmithWorkshop6 жыл бұрын
I don't think I can find a hide this big. The biggest one I bought was around 30"x45". For a bigger map, I would have to use vegetable tanned leather, which would look completely different.
