@MrRICKDAWG4444
@MrRICKDAWG4444 4 жыл бұрын
The plugs used in the video are just 5.5 barrel plugs and I'm using a 12volt converter at the wall. So basically you can use any style connector you want on a vehicle since its just a positive and negative 12v wire. I've actually been using a new style 3 pin screw together type connection for whips i make now but you can use practically anything you like. Hope this helps

Your instructions were so awesome. I built two of these over the weekend. They look and work perfect. I have a question on the controller set up. What is the Adjust pixel point method? How do I know how many pixels I have? The instructions say to long press the menu/auto button and then the mode + and mode - to adjust the number of pixel points, then press speed + and speed -, each adjustment 32 pixel points. Any help or assistance with this would be appreciated. Thank you once again.

They are just air hose fittings however the male side that comes on the 5150 day whip that i start with is custom made by them. There are several different mounting options for whips if you do a Google search you see a few different choices. If you're handy with a welder I'll be posting a video on some magnetic ones that I'm making that use thicker 1/2" buggy whips.

I think I'ma tackle this project for my quad, couple questions. How do you hook these up to a 12v battery source? I see you have them on a wall outlet, is it as simple as cutting off the wire from the wall outlet and putting on some ring terminals for a battery? And do these LEDs also stay a solid color? My buddies have their whips and they set them to solid colors like white when they want to light up camp or just to have some light while sitting on top of the dunes. Love the video, honestly I gotta say it's the most informative how to I've seen.
@MrRICKDAWG4444
@MrRICKDAWG4444 4 жыл бұрын
They just plug into 12 volt positive and negative on a battery. In the video I'm using a AC/DC converter however it's the same thing i just plug into the wall. I personally tap into the tail lights so when i turn them on the whip comes on. They do all solid colors and smart modes. I'm about to put a new video up on a set of whips i made for subscriber that will show how i sync two of them together with new connector i recommend using.

@MrRICKDAWG4444
@MrRICKDAWG4444 3 жыл бұрын
Yes basically that's all I build is paired whips anymore. Ok so instead of putting the controller in the whip you're going to use a 3pin connector coming off of each whip then make a wire harness that splices two leads off of the controller that will go to both whips. I recommend using a sp110e Bluetooth controller for this. Here's a old pic of how my first set looked. imgur.com/gallery/hJDHr6K

Thank you again for this video! I have made one now and I have another question. The led lights silicone coating is splitting as soon as I finish wrapping them and beginning to slide the shrink wrap on, do you have a trick to prevent this?
@MrRICKDAWG4444
@MrRICKDAWG4444 5 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. As for the silicon on the strip, practice makes perfect. The first one i made also started to split and the only trick i found is to have everything ready to go before you start wrapping and work fast so that it does not have a chance to split before you get the shrink wrap on. I hope this helps for your next build. Feel free to reach out to me with any other questions you have.

I'm about to build one using a cb antenna mast, was wondering about how the masts have a spiral wire going up wondering if it would mess up the wrapping process of the led strip
@MrRICKDAWG4444
@MrRICKDAWG4444 5 жыл бұрын
I built my first one from a cb antenna, a firestick specifically alot of big companies do the same.. You will need to remove the shrink wrap and wire coils first and then you will still end up with a weak whip because after you shred everything off you'll find they are pretty small but the most important part is the threads that come on the antenna are made of very cheap metal and will snap at the threads easily with all the added weight of the leds if you're riding aggresive thru bumps. I adhered a male air hose fitting to the bottom on mine for that reason. I highly recommend that you use a strong whip for this project like the 5150 Day whip if you plan on riding hard.

@MrRICKDAWG4444
@MrRICKDAWG4444 4 жыл бұрын
It really depends what you're looking for and the application it's being used on, the newest chip set is the ws2815 i believe. However with all the benefits of them i didn't like the pattern they run in for whips due to having a IC chip in every led. Also some controllers didn't like running that many IC chips and couldn't light a full 6' whip plus they cost twice as much. At the end of the day if you're not looking to run a single color at its peak abilities like white for example then you can't really beat the ws2811 and the number of LEDs is up to you long as you consider power injection if you plan on running 6' whips.

@MrRICKDAWG4444
@MrRICKDAWG4444 4 жыл бұрын
No them being together won't effect the mode that they are running however someone messing with a nearby remote will. I found that almost all these remotes work on a likewise frequency and can work other whips in some way or another. If this is a concern they make bluetooth controllers that are a little bigger so you will have to mount the on the vehicle instead of the whip but then you will be able to control them with your phone and also dance with your music playing.

Thank you. Ok so if you want to sync the two you need to start with one plugged in, find the mode you like and then power it off with the remote this will save the setting. Unplug the first one and plug in the second one and repeat the process. Now plug both in they should be on the same mode. If the timing is off hold the remote between both whips and press power on the remote to power them off, then press power again so they both come on at the same time.

Nice I'm glad you liked the video. This video was kinda intended for beginners i should really make a second video showing my new style i make that run more power injected leds and integrate with the vehicles Break,reverse, and turn signals and music. However i custom order my new controllers straight out of China so i cannot provide you with a link for them, they also cost alot more than most people wanna pay and they don't do many modes right off the back but you can make your own custom modes with em so that's really cool if you're creative.

Wow 8' is pretty tall for a quad, legally it only needs to be 7' from the ground that being said you can contact the manufacturer of the leds and they can supply you with a longer roll however it's easier just to solder them together see my part 2 video for that. As far as needing power injection wires that's really only necessary if you intend on running solid white because that uses the most power and without power injection you will notice the top of the whip won't be the same color white as the bottom. You can make the sp110e Bluetooth controller waterproof but you will have to split it open and incase it in silicone to be waterproof there is a controller out there thats waterproof proff but it is limited on the stuff it can do as far as presets go and it's 5times expensive so I usually use the sp110e. Also Set your whip up so it has a 3pin connector coming off of the whip so you can change controllers without striping the whip down.

It's possible however there is a few factors at play once you close the separation of LEDs by adding more per foot it will start blending colors at a distance and will look way different than one with less LEDs. Most importantly after around 150 LEDs you need to start power injection if you want to run solid whites, without it the whites will fade to amber at the top of string. Hope this helps.

Yeah the fist one i ever did i had that happen and i found you just need to have everything ready wrap fast and get the shrink wrap on as quickly as possible. Also if you're using a whip smaller than 3/8" dont wrap the leds as tight.

FYI, That little chip is actually a buck converter which drops the voltage down to 5v for the actual chip. That's its only function. The LED chips themselves all contain their own 'brains', which is what makes them capable of individual addressing.

Oh, ok. Why do the 5 volt led strips have the buck converter then?

@@MrRICKDAWG4444 Actually, you are right. I thought these were 2812 lights you were using, but you're using 2811, which are, in fact, controlled by a separate IC. 2812 lights have the circuit within the LED itself. My mistake!

Right, that's what i was thinking. You had me confused for a second i wanna try using the 2812's but i cant seem to get those mini controllers to work with them even tho they say they are compatible.
