This is a truly fantastic idea. I made mine with a 24 inch tire for a slightly more compact splitting block and I used 22 inch boards. This size is a little bit more manageable for making the assembly portable. I was concerned that the platform might not be solid enough to absorb the impact of the splitting, but it worked out perfectly even on top of a dirt ground. Can’t wait to put my new fire pit cover over it. just bought it from Amazon for $26. Got an old tire from my mechanics garbage dumpster, shined it up with tire shine. Looks like new. Thank you so much for this fantastic design. .Ben M.

Thank you for sharing. Your video is by far the best one I have watched, straight to the point. I am going to use your dimensions to build mine.

I built this after seeing your video and was able to get alot of wood split in quicker time...thanks for posting this!!!!!!!!! What I did: The tire I used was 30" diameter, I did 2 treated 4x4s at 30" (for the 2 on the ground, then 2 untreated 4x4s at 30" for the upper support then did 8- 2x4s across the top for decking and used 3-1/2" torx screws to assemble it all and did the washers with the screws to hold the tire in place.

Shouldn't you put holes at bottom of tire so that water does not collect and become a mosquito breeding area?

Seeing how this one's made I have an idea for a short cut. Steel merchants often have coils of sheet metal delivered vertical on tophat pallets, these are often thrown out when the steel is fed through slitting or cropping machines. Go to your local steel merchants and ask if you can take a pallet from a tophat coil.

Good video I understand making a stand for the tire but why not just use two tires
@EdenGreenFarmandAdventures3 жыл бұрын
because you want the bottom off the ground.. you cant have the logs on the ground. Logs need to be raised up to your near waste height.

@@EdenGreenFarmandAdventures That stand has the logs lifted 8ish inches.... you must have dwarfs splitting the wood. Nowhere neare waist high

Low profile, wide tread tires work best. If you have to use tires like the one in the video cut off half the sidewall. And skip all the unnecessary wood parts! All you need is the tire!

The wood part is essential, especially for older people. This way you don't have to bend over backwards.. I will make my even taller..
