Great video - I've been mainly collecting PSA 9 chase cards but I recently was reminded of how good some of the common/uncommon cards looked from my childhood. Hence, I'm trying to now collect master sets of some of the cards I grew up with and despite being back in the hobby for quite a few years, I found this video really helpful. Thank you!

I make my master set with all variants. For example the scarlet & violet base set has lechonks that i had to get 1 from China n 1 from Canada. I want my master sets to have every variant of the card as long as it has the set #'s on it i had to get it

I wouldn’t say a must but without sleeves some binders will have the cards sliding out on occasion. Sleeves help with that slightly but I also understand it can be a lot including all the commons and uncommons

I think for sleeves it is just personal preference. I use good quality sleeves for my binder and i double sleeve everything. Especially when it comes to master sets. Started Brilliant Stars and Astral Radiance. I have been re collecting again recently but then when Brilliant stars came out that was when i wanted to start heavily. Have the Vault X binders based on the set so use sleeves to match the colour of the binder.

There are sleeves that have dual colors (the front and back are different). I like to have the back be solid black but have the part you look at (the side of the sleeve that sticks out when looking at the card) to match the color of the vault X binder. That way it looks like all the cards are floating in the binder.

As I’ve looked around I heard a few people comment that it can pull cards towards the binding and warp them. I put the reverse hollo and normal in the same spot, the reverse hollo on top. But master set I count with alternative arts that some are promos that were removed from the set and some even from stamped cards like pre release ones or even the tournament that I put in the set

So here’s EVERYTHING 1 binder for every GEN including HGSS, besides 5&6 sense they have the same card style. One for all my favorite Pokémon. Here’s the FUN binders 1 for all my ULT/secret rares, holos and promos 1 for ALL reverse holos. I’m currently working on TWO national dex binders 1 regular with my duplicate ULT/secret and holos NO promos though AND a FULL reverse holo national dex binder.

If you have any local card/gaming shops near you, I would start there. Then maybe eBay for bulk lots if you are missing a lot. Then TCGPlayer for additional singles. The fewer sellers the better to avoid additional shipping costs. Booster packs are way too expensive. Sometimes eBay will have lots of all commons/uncommons for sets but it can be rare depending on the set

It is probably the most doable set we’ve had in a long time. Reverse holos are cheap bulk now and the most expensive card is around $75 and still dropping. I’m tempted to collect it myself 😅

I usually put them side by side. If there’s a non holo variant. I put those at the back so I don’t have to move all the cards over if I collect one after I put the set together. I only include things that can be pulled from packs. Everything else I put in the back. Some commons have holo variants and some holo rares have non holo deck exclusives.

@@jnastystl not every card has 3 variants but there are a good amount. Every non holo of a holo rare is a deck exclusive of some type for the scarlet and Violet era. Might come from a battle deck or build and battle box. You could put them side by side, stacked behind the holo, in the back or not include them at all haha. It can be overwhelming at times trying to track everything down lol

Complete set: all the cards in the set Master set: 4 of every card in the set - so you can play any and every possible deck with those cards. If you're differentiating the two things you described at the start of the video i would use a word with a lot less gravity to describe what is really just a full set instead of "master"

People should know they don't need to collect complete set or master set every time. Came back during paldea evolved. made complete set reverse holo. then another SV1 complete set. Feels quite boring with standard cards in between ex. So I stopped doing another complete set. except for the mew 151 which I played during gen 1. which I'm trying to make master set of. In a sense of boringness, 151 binder looks less boring because the pokemon's types are all jumbled up. You don't see like 12 C & UC non holo pokemon in 1 page with no ex and see it's just green colored cards with some small image in a box. Then I make a Standard V, Vmax, Vstars binder, 360 V, Vmax, Vstars. 1 spread 1 type 18 cards. it looks awesome. Then again V pokemon looks nice because the layout isn't that intrusive. got 360 of them full in 1 binder. Then continued on with SV ex binder. I have a small binder just for random stuff, probably 1-2 spread each. Full art, trainer, trainer gallery, V-union, AR. SIR. Then there's jumbo cards.

I like that approach a lot. After the SV block, I think I might adapt something similar since these sets take up a lot of space fast

Nice video. I personally don’t agree about sleeving common/uncommon/rares in the binders. I think that is a additional expense and time when 95% of these usually are the same price 5-7 years later.

Yeah I agree with you. I only did it for uniformity and protecting the set in the long run. Plus with these binders, the sleeves help the cards stay in the pocket. I’ve noticed that if the binders get moved a bunch, cards with no sleeves tend to slip out. Also if I ever wanted to repurpose the binder, cards with no sleeves tend to leave a residue on the pockets themselves which can be ugly to look at. But for space, time and money I definitely understand not sleeving or just bypassing non Holo cards altogether in a binder set

If i have the whole set from the first card to the last in the set. I’m good, it gets ridiculous to create this stigma to all of the collectors/players that a “proper set” needs to be the same cards in the set whether they’re common or reverser hollow. Waste of time and money you could be collecting towards the next set. Literally free marketing to spend more money for the same cards. 😂

Haha I wish I would’ve made the same decision as you way back haha. I’m in too deep. It’s crazy that people go beyond and collect errors and all promos and all exclusives. Yeah Pokémon knows what they’re doing lol
