The explanation of the symbols and 'rarities' were very helpful, thank you. I opened my first pack of tcg cards for the first time since the early 2000s. Managed a gold super rod with extremely poor centering 😂. Obviously when I was younger it was never about the monetary value. I will think about what I am doing whether it be collecting a specific mon or type and therefore buy singles OR just keep buying booster packs. We shall see.
@Witkomon Жыл бұрын
I’m really glad you found the video helpful! Personally, I prefer a combination of both opening packs, and buying singles. Obviously, it’s a A LOT of fun to open packs, isn’t it, but it can get quite expensive… and, you aren’t guaranteed anything at all. But when you do pull something, what a rush! It becomes so meaningful. And, on the singles side, you can buy some really nice cards for $2-$5 dollars. So, I open packs for the fun, but don’t go overboard, and spend the rest on a few nice singles!

Was looking for a video like this that explains what the symbols mean. Thank you.

No problem at all! I’m really glad I could help :) That sounds so awesome opening packs with your daughter! I was always by far the most into Pokemon in my family, but I just know if I had someone else to collect with it would have been so much more special. No doubt she’ll cherish those memories quite a lot when she grows up! FYI, if you’re putting cards in top loaders, also make sure to put them in penny sleeves as well!! The cards move around a bit, and without one they will scratch up. I’d recommend maybe getting a binder, that’s how I store all my cards. Keeps them safe, and really nice to look at. You could buy generic ones for about $15-$20 on Amazon, or Pokemon even makes nice officially licences ones, I think around $30-$40 Good luck collecting!!
@OnLyFuN1306 Жыл бұрын
Thats the trick! You can sell your card at any price you want but if you want to sell it in a decent amount of time you have to be in the price range of what people are selling it for. I always go down a little over the rest so I can sell and gain a good reputation then I can sell a little higher price in the future
@Witkomon Жыл бұрын
You’re exactly right! Especially if you’re just starting out on something like eBay, nobody will pay more, or even the same, for your card, when they could buy from a trusted and reputable seller instead. It’s a risk, after all. So, you have to make that risk worthwhile by making your price slightly cheaper, usually 10-15%. And eventually you can slowly bring your prices up, even sell for a premium!

Honestly, it differs quite a bit depending on where you live… but, you have a couple options. You can take your cards to a local card shop, they often buy cards, though they will usually give 30-50% less than market value. This is probably the easiest though. You can also sell your cards in person on some kind of marketplace platform, such as Facebook marketplace, Kijiji etc. This is also quite easy, and allows you to meet people in person. Finally you can sell online! Platforms like eBay and TCGplayer are great, but you have to deal with fees and shipping

hey i’ve had this opinion for a while, you don’t have listen to me because you can make your own decisions and it’s your channel. The main thing that drew me to your content was the way you presented information as well as your tone and over the past couple months those two things have changed and your views have decreased, i’d assume those two reasons are why. This is just a recommendation and to make you aware. Thanks if you read this and another thank you for all the helpful content👍
@Witkomon Жыл бұрын
Hey circle! I really appreciate the comment actually. The change in tone was definitely an intentional choice, I've been trying to make the videos a little more lively and energetic. I'm assuming when you refer to the way I present information, that has to do with editing style, which of course, in this video especially, is extra colourful and exciting(is that the word?). But is it a good change? Who knows. Looking at all the big Poketubers, theyre far more crazy then me haha. Poketev, UnlistedLeaf, Deep Pocket Monster, they all kind of have this energetic facade. I'm assuming that's because the majority of their audience is younger kids, and I'm assuming mine is as well. But with KZbin, who really knows. I'm a small channel, so I'm just throwing anything at the wall, and seeing what sticks! Maybe if the new style isn't working, I'll try a video with the older style, see how that works. I just love making videos, so I'm happy to do anything! I really do appreciate the comment though, that's definitely something I will think about. Actually, my dad said the same thing yesterday. I'm curious though, what do you think was the last "good" video in your eyes? The last with the old style mostly? And which videos are your favorite? So that I can have a bit of a reference! And, if you have any other constructive criticism, I'd definitely like to hear it! Honestly, it means the most to me that you care enough to even leave a comment. And if you read all of this, that extra means a lot! Haha!

@@Witkomon Of course man, I only want the best for you. I really appreciate you replying and thanks to your "How to Tell if Your Pokémon Cards Are Rare or Expensive!" video, I was able to make quite a bit of money, so I figured the least I could do is be sincere and offer a recommendation. To answer your question, "How to Draw Your Own Pokémon Cards!" from approximately a year ago was the last video you did that really made an impression on me. I still find the time to view all of your videos, though. I've seen that your instructional and informative videos often get high views, therefore I'd want to see more of those. You're good at imparting knowledge; you could do a video showing how to draw or make a certainthing, but you've done a number of those already, and I don't want people to think you're repetitive. I was really intrigued to follow your channel because you were distinct from the other pokemon channels, which are all very similar and have been losing viewers and money. I just want you to have the success you were hoping for so I thought I'd let you know. But in the end, it's your channel, so I'll keep supporting whatever content you post even if it's not what I was hoping for. Thank you once more for the response and all the great videos. Take care! I'm not sure I know what you're talking about... that's definitely not a rarity symbol. A new system was introduced this year with the double stars and what not (the super rare cards in this video), but before that it was only the circle, diamond, and star. @Witkomon10 ай бұрын
So, the white circle is a common. It’s the same as a black circle, a circle, will always mean common. It’s white, only because a black circle would be impossible to see on a dark card! As for the rainbow A, that’s an “Amazing Rare”. I talk about it in the video actually, it’s in the additional rarities segment. Amazing rare cards are pretty niche, they were introduced in the sword and shield era, and featured in only 2 sets. They were not hugely popular, so they were discontinued pretty quick. Most are not worth a whole lot unfortunately, only a few bucks each. But, they are equivalent to an illustration rare, single gold star card, so still pretty rare, and nice!

Question: So “rare” cards usually cost more than common cards, but do common cards from the 90’s or early 2000’s have value? Would a common Wizards of the Coast card be worth more simply because it’s old?
@Witkomon11 ай бұрын
Hmm, well, it depends entirely on the card. Even from the 1990s, commons still won’t be worth more than maybe $10-$20 (at ABSOLUTE most). Most will still be around the $1-$5 range. At the end of the day, they’re still commons, so there’s a lot of them out there, and they’re easy to pul! But definitely they are worth more than new commons, if only to have something from a past time to appreciate?

Huh, you’re either. That’s the Shiny Rare Rabsca from Paldean Fates, not sure why it wouldn’t be on TCGplayer. I looked it up on eBay, I’d say it’s about a $5-$6 dollar card. Though, strangely enough it seems to go for more sometimes as well, some have sold as high as $10-$15 dollars. Nice!

"I FINDS IT! I FINDS IT! 😅 Omg love this video! I JUST had my mom come visit me and had her go through my old boxes and get my pokemon cards! I'm so excited. The few I've gone through so far are some rare holos and some 1st editions! (As of addind in my app/TCG, I'm not mad!) 😅😂

You should’ve explained what does the offset number means and the NSA amount number like the 198 does that mean how many decks were included with that card?

I have a gold reverse holographic card that doesn't have a card number (the number at the bottom left something like 072/073) is this common or does this make tge card rare?

I live in Canada, I once pulled a Machamp from a normal pack (I think) but the machamp was (I found out later) the original style pokemon card, and I opened it in like 2009. However, this Machamp was itself in a plastic wrapper, and the card is entirely in French, even tho I was opening an English pack. It was a long time ago, what was going on?
@Witkomon2 ай бұрын
I live in Canada too! So, I’m thinking you must have bought some kind of third part mystery box-type product? That sealed Machamp card you pulled (if it is indeed the original one from 1999), came in every single starter set back then. It would have been impossible then, and definately now, to pull it in a standard official pack. Sometimes, there could be errors with wrong languages, but there has never been a sealed card in a pack. So, it must have been a third party product, which would make sense!

Hey I have a dedenne it’s all holo, but instead of a black star it has a white holographic star? What dose that mean!!?
@Witkomon Жыл бұрын
Ah! So that's actually the older rarity symbol, that Dedene is a GX, or V card correct? In any case, the shiny silver star was used to refer to all special, super rare cards! It could mean a double rare, ultra rare, or hyper rare, depending on the card

my question for you is i have 2 cards with picachu symbol on side where pokemon goes. any idea
@Witkomon2 ай бұрын
Ah! I’ve got a section in that at 8:41 Extra Rarity Symbols. In short, it means the card came from a pre-constructed “theme deck”. AKA, from a product that you could buy, not a pack.

@Witkomon Жыл бұрын
YES! For sure, that’s a 25th anniversary Celebrations Charizard, a reprint of the base set! One of the biggest chase cards from the set, I believe it’s around $100! That’s some insane luck from a $1 pack!

I have a roserade that is rainbow and the star is also rainbow what does it mean?
@Witkomon Жыл бұрын
Ah! So that's a "rainbow rare" card! That type of card was present in both the Sun and Moon series, as well as sword and shield, but was discontinued now in Scarlet and Violet. Those were very rare cards though, infact, they were some of the rarest that you could pull! Roughly equivalent to a triple gold star, hyper rare, so the rarest!

@Witkomon Жыл бұрын
Hmm, are you sure it has no symbol? I haven’t seen any Hisuan Voltorbs without a symbol before… maybe check again! And if still no, then I’m not sure. Could be a card I’ve simply not seen, maybe some kind of promo, or could be something else

Thank you for this! I haven't collected cards since I was a kid, pretty, but my brother-in-law starting gifting me packs and I enjoyed getting some from the McDonald's events so I figured I should start organizing them. Good info and to the point! As an aside, thanks for mentioning the "sold listings" part. I've been selling on eBay and other sites for over 10 years and it's mind boggling to me that people don't realize that people can set whatever price they want (but it only matters what it will actually sell for). I'm sure that tip will be helpful.
@Witkomon Жыл бұрын
No problem at all! I'm glad I could help you organize your cards!! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, and I appreciate your kind comment, it really means a lot! That's some brother-in-law of yours, I'm jealous! Could he be my brother-in-law?! Lol! I'm kidding, but that's awesome! The McDonalds cards are a lot of fun too!

You missed the triple black star Shining pokemon from Neo sets and First edition marking for older cards! Realistically, no one is likely to randomly come across the Shining cards, but I hope no one is missing out on them either! Thanks for explaining the new systems to me, I recently bought some cards for nostalgia and had no idea what I was looking for in these new sets!
