For those of you wondering, you can use metal instead of pencil lead. I've been experimenting with two paper clips as the connections and different materials as the free-floating part, and have found something that should be discussed. I first tried 3 paper clips stripped across the bridge, with 4 AA batteries hooked up to it in series. I could only hear loud bumps and buzzing. After experimenting and reducing to two AA batteries and only using 1 paper clip, I found that if I talked very quietly, I could hear what I said - but it was still bugging out my headphones. I then attempted a piece of aluminum foil folded accordion - style. It was so loud that it made loud bumps on my headphones and hurt my ears. The reason graphite doesn't do this is because, though it conducts electricity, it acts as a resistor; as in, it makes it much harder for electricity to flow through it. In conclusion, to use metal instead of graphite, you will either want to hook up a customized circuit to reduce the current, or, for those of you who can't, if you use a 1.5v AA battery with two paper clips as the connections and a paper clip across the middle for the actual microphone part, using a 200 ohm resistor (Or 220 ohm resistor) hooked up on the positive lead of the battery will bring the amps down to 7.5 amps, (or 6.8 amps) and will hopefully prevent your headphones or speaker from blowing out. SERIOUS NOTE: I am still new to calculating resistance, and this is all theory until I have a chance to actually get some resistors, so use headphones that you don't care whether or not they are destroyed, and DO NOT PLUG INTO AN ELECTRONIC unless you are ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENT that it is safe, or else you may just ruin ports on your computer or other device. Hope this helps!

Attach both sides of the battery to the "microphone" and you've got the basic structure of a railgun. It shouldn't be powerful enough to move anything, but crank up the power input by daisy chaining batteries and the smaller graphite piece will move down the line.

As I think, as the little grafite is jumping (vibrating) on top of the other two grafites, this makes the current flowing and stops it too. When it touches the two grafites then the current can flow, when it doesn't touches all the two grafites then there is no connection for the current to flow. And this current on/off vibration makes the speaker's membran vibrating (because of the speaker's coil's vibrating current->vibrating magnetic field->little peace of magnet or just steel is pulled-pushed), and that makes the air vibrating and that is what we can hear.

I'm gonna use that the next time I play online. When they ask if my microphone is a tin can, I'll reply "yes, it is a tin can" (assuming I make my own version that uses a tin can instead of a matchbox)
@xdragon2k8 жыл бұрын
+Samu Rönkkö Or you can just say, "No, it's a matchbox."

I don't recommend doing this. This IS DANGEROUS. I tried it with two sets of different brands ear phones. Bolth times the ear phones got very hot and made wierd noises even when I was touching them (voice and noise do not work) and one time a spark flew out and hit me.
@mccrazy60219 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this is just for the materials I used ( a plastic cup instead of a cardboard matchbox, energizer 9V, and cheep head phones because I didn't want to ruin them.)
@MarianKeller9 жыл бұрын
+Mccrazy that is because of the DC bias in the signal. Just add a 100-1000 uF Capacitor in series with the headphones to AC couple them. Also please check the volume before putting the headphones on your ears, if it is too high, you can add a series resistor, or just put the central graphite piece further away from the leads.

+Marian Keller yup. also 9v DC is waay too much to be pumping into any earphones anyway...

Crazy idea: make a speaker and connect it to the microphone. You might be able to make several from 1 microphone, but you might need a more powerful battery to get a good sound.

So you're not going to disclose the fact you got paid and got sent a pair of those headphones to say you use them to sell a few? Not cool

sebianoti But U.S. KZbinrs do that as well, with NatureBox, Netflix, Hulu+, Audible.com. It's definitely possible that they use these products, but their advertisements make more money for the companies who in turn pay the KZbinrs as sponsors.
