yoyomax, you ROCK. I am a total amateur at cake-making, but I made this cake, following your directions to the letter, and it was a HUGE hit. My son was so delighted, as were his friends. I posted the photos on FB and I think you are now going to be bombarded with hits from my friends, whose kids are going to bully them into making this cake! I mentioned in my post that the only reason it was do-able was because of your exquisitely clear instructions. It takes talent, and you clearly have it. Thank you SO much. The only thing I did differently was make it one layer bigger by using a square 14x14" pan I got at the Bulk Barn; and I took your advice about using frosting btw the three layers. I also used the skewer, however, as an insurance policy. Thank you again!! P.S. The chocolate cake was delicious.

I made this last year. I put the dry ingredients of a normal chocolate cake (so I made my own box cake). I added followed every step and I used the same buttercream. It was just divine. The cake was wonderful. I could eat it all day! Thanks Tammy for uploading this!

Thanks for posting this. I was stressing about making one for my son next week. Im so glad to have something to go by. I just hope I can figure out how you cut the cake. I will probably have to pause a million times. ha! Do you happen to know what size that cake board was? Also, from your notes it looks like there was plenty leftover, so is it safe to not double the cake or rice krispie treats? And just that one frosting recipe was all you needed for grass? Thanks!

The cake board is approx. 15 x 21" The tricky part about not doubling the cake recipe is that the blocks you will have will be thinner, unless you used the appropriate pan to get correct thickness. If you don't mind that the cake blocks are thinner then just a regular cake pan. One frosting recipe for the grass should be plenty.

yoyomax12 - the diet free zone i used double and was able to trim off the top of the cake that had a slight curve and made it level.. it turned out great.. and as stated in comments there were plenty of the rice crispy treats left over.. this was awesome

the cake will just be thinner. i used double but had to trim the top to level the cake since in the oven it rises and has a curved top. it cuts to sculpt very well. a single recipe for rice crispy treats and icing would be plenty. rice crispy treats will need to be put in a dish that allows for the equal thickness as the cake. double the jello recipe was needed for my experience
