It's birch wood...as far as brands, it never matters because no matter how much money you spend, there will ALWAYS be a tenth of the box unusable in whole. But keep the ugly ducklings for use in the smaller size areas you will always need. As far as I can tell though, larger boxes are the way to go simply because of lower cost. Hopefully that helps.
