I've always found mirror glaze cakes quite mesmerising, and in today's tutorial I'm going to be showing you guys how you can make one of these mesmerising cakes yourself! Also, when it comes to pouring the glaze on the cake, you can stop at any point (or keep going until you're happy with the look - which is what I did 😂). Any remaining glaze can be kept in the fridge and heated up when you want to use it next :)

Ingredients:
- 1½ Cups (300g) White Granulated Sugar
- ⅔ Cup (200g) Sweetened Condensed Milk
- ½ Cup (118g) Water (to be mixed at the beginning with the condensed milk and sugar)
- 2 Tablespoons (19g) Gelatin Powder
- ½ Cup (125 ml) Water (for blooming the gelatin)
- 2 Cups and 1 tablespoon (360g) White Chocolate Chips
- Gel Food Coloring

Hi everyone! So glad to hear how many of you loved this glaze recipe :D. One thing I forgot to mention was to make sure you have a cake card under your cake so that it doesn't break when you transfer it to a smaller stand to pour the glaze over (or make sure your stand is just smaller than your cake so that it's big enough to support your cake). Hope that made sense, and all the best with your mirror glaze cakes!

The only video with good clear instructions and advice. I really liked the way you said the cake has to be cold in order for the glazed to be on it properly. None of the other similar videos mentioned anything like that. Keep up the good work :) My cake is currently cooling and was searching what to take note for before pouring the glazed and your video helped a lot.

Great tutorial. Used the recipe listed and was perfect. I used similar colours but used crushed blue boiled lollies instead of coconut for around the base. Thanks so much

I’m so happy I found your video! It instructions were clear AND you showed what you did AFTER you poured the glaze!! Most other videos I’ve found (although helpful) they did not show the after clean up and display part. So thank you for taking the time for sharing this. Makes me feel it’s more possible for me to do it 😅 now that I’ve seen you do it. I’ve looked through most of the comments to check for answers to questions that I had, the only question I may have is if placing a cake topper would be okay? I imagine it would be but just wanted to be sure 😊 Thanks!!

Thanks Maria! :D And sprinkles sound like such a fun idea! I've never tried with sprinkles but I guess you could?! Maybe after the mixture has cooled down a little before you pour it over the cake otherwise the sprinkles might melt :)

Thanks for this easy to follow glaze recipe. I’m planning to make a double layer 8” cake. If I cut the glaze recipe down by half, will it be enough to cover my cake ? Reason being, I don’t know what to do with all that left over glaze, and don’t want to waste it. TIA for any advice.

You're welcome Faith! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video :). Hmm this really depends on the weather conditions. If it's very hot, then probably only a couple of hours (but keep in mind your glaze will soften). If the weather is cold, then a few hours should be fine :)

Wassalām! Thank you so much Haniya :). This is ordinary white chocolate (I prefer to use ordinary as it tastes nicer), but cooking chocolate will work too :)

Hi MK. Does these beauties travel well (no longer than 20-30 minute travel time)? One thing I would request. You are very informative and I love that. On special cakes such as these, your beautiful “Sugar Sheet”-can you cover if any traveling issues? Or best way to transport some of these cakes. I hope that makes sense. I appreciate your work. This is how I want my Mirror attempt to turn out....BEAUTIFULLY FLAWLESS.

Thank you so much for your feedback :) A 30 minute travel time should be okay for a mirror glazed cake, just make sure it's been chilled in the refrigerator beforehand and that the a/c is on in the car. Yay so glad to hear that! :D And left over glaze can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for a few weeks, and then when you want to use it just reheat it and wait for it to come to the right temp and pour it over your cake :)

Hi there! No problem, I'm glad you're enjoying the recipes :). Agar agar can be used as a substitute for gelatin, though I'm not sure of the exact quantity you'll need as I've never tried it with this recipe before sorry! Agar agar is stronger than gelatin so you will need less agar agar, but it will be best to search for the correct amount to substitute for the quantity in this recipe. Hope this helps :)

Thanks so much for this recipe! Is it okay to use a boxed cake mix (like yellow or white cake) that has been chilled? Also is it shredded coconut that you used?

Hi Sonia! Any cake will be fine, but it will need to be coated with some kind of buttercream before pouring the glaze on top, otherwise when the cake gets soft the glaze may seep into the cake. And yes it is shredded coconut :)

Thank you! :) Yes you can use coloured gelatin, and unfortunately to achieve the blue colour you will need to use white chocolate as brown chocolate is too dark :)

I always go with flavored, colored gelatin (in Germany I can get almost every basic color besides blue, even halal or agar agar) with white chocolate and I just add color or many colors to achieve a desired result. But dark chocolate only works for brown or black glaze. I once used milk chocolate and added lots of dark blue gel color hoping it would get dark and saturated faster. All it did was becoming rather dirty, muddy blue-brown soup as if a Smurf peed in a pond. Unless that’s what you’re going for it’s not worth trying, use white chocolate and you’re going to be fine.

Is beautiful but I have questions what type of chocolate is candy melts or compound chocolate and what temperature the choc is before u pouring the chocolate on the top of cake thanks

Hi there! Candy melts are a compound chocolate, which basically means that it doesn't have as much cocoa butter as real chocolate - making it a lower quality tasting chocolate (and not a 'true' chocolate). And I have the temperature instructions up on my blog which is linked in the description box (I think I mention it in the video at some point too) :)

Hi, I have a question, I've seen a lot of recepies using glucose syrup instead of sugar and I was curious to understand whether this does affect the end result. Love your channel, your explanations are so clear and you make everything look so easy!

Hi Francesca :). Hmmm good question! To be honest I'm not too sure as I've never tried it with glucose syrup before, but I imagine the glucose syrup would give it a nice shine (similar to the gelatine and condensed milk in this recipe!). Wassalaam! Thank you so much for your lovely comments and duas :). I wouldn't recommend doing this as the glaze will seep into the cake and make your cake soggy. You need to have some sort of waterproof barrier like a buttercream. Hope that helps :)

Yes sure! Just let the glaze set for a few hours in the refrigerator before adding the white chocolate ganache :)

Hello that’s an amazing glaze. Can liquid colour be used instead of gel colour? Would there be a difference to the final look?

Thank you Vanitha! Liquid colour can be used but not too much as this may change the consistency of the glaze. Because you can't use too much, the colour may not be as deep, compared to when using a gel colour :)

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Just wondering if the mirror glaze would be too sweet with all the sugar and condensed milk.

Thanks so much! :) And the mirror glaze is on the sweeter side, but because it is only a thin layer over the top of the cake it's fine and doesn't make the cake too sweet :)

If you use cooking/baking chocolate then it won't be as sweet because cooking/baking chocolate has little to no sugar in it

Thank you so much Mai! Glad to hear you're enjoying the videos :). Re the brown glaze - yes you are absolutely right! No need to colour it if you use a milk chocolate. If you're going to use a dark chocolate, then you will need to reduce the amount of chocolate slightly as dark chocolate sets a lot quicker than white or milk chocolate so you won't need as much. The exact quantities I'm not sure of sorry!

You're welcome! :) and yes you can still do this without the white, it's just the white that runs through the glaze will be slightly yellow - some people use a tiny bit of purple to counter the yellow colour to make it more white if you wanted to try that option :)

will the mirror glaze will not be firm if you let it cool because there's a gelatin in it??? Thank you! Youre so cool 💓

Hi Mary! Good question :). So you only let the mirror glaze cool down to 30 degrees celcius so it is luke warm. At this stage the glaze is still a liquid consistency that you can pour. Also, the amount of gelatin added isn't enough to firm up the entire glaze, but you will notice that after you've poured the glaze and you let it set, it does firm up a bit. I am amazed at your work, congratulations! I have one question though: ¿why did you make and pour so much glaze on top of the cake? ¿is it necessary? ¿what are the quantities recommended for a good glaze?

Hi Anna! Thank you so much :) and great question! So you totally do not need to pour that much glaze over the cake - I just went a bit overboard because my white wasn't coming through at the beginning so was waiting for the colour to come through haha but you only need to pour enough that it covers the cake and then you can reuse any of the glaze that falls to the bottom for other cakes :). If you're only glazing one cake that is 8 inches or smaller, then 3/4 of this recipe should be more than enough :)
