Monster hunter game's monsters has one of the best creature design out there. I've never seen monsters that strike the balance of fantasy, realism, and distinct "iconic" look as well as MH. I'm sure there are others out there, but I would say it's very few. The creatures that I've seen are always lacking in one those variables that I talked about.

Aw, I loved eternatus' design. They must have drawn inspiration from the amazing process of dying specimens bones blue and red, diaphanization! The tissues are made transparent so you can see the dyed bones. :)

Really fantastic work, I love the focus on reference materials and would love to see more videos looking at the design aspects of the MH series. In addition, one other thing I feel MH does really well that should be brought up is how much importance it puts on its creatures anatomy and how they function, not just in-game for combat, but even to imply its ecological adaptations. While Rathian's tail is studded in poisonous spikes, she also has spines on her back and wings that serve no gameplay function but still imply a strong defensive mechanism that would be more useful against other monsters. It's these design details over just shoving random spikes onto any part of a monster that really helps to make the creatures of Monster Hunter as believable and immersive as possible.

the thing the gets me is even the character animations for the monster move so much like real animals. I spent all my life around horses and I actually tell how the Kirin is feeling and if its getting mad but how it moves. It moves and emotes exactly like a real horse..showing its feeling the exact same way. It just makes it feel all the more like a REAL living thing.

I think this monster took around 16-18 hours, not including the time that went into the original concepts. It's kind of hard to keep track of past a certain point, because the timelapse is stitched together from videos recorded over several days and then sped up between 4000-7000%.

When I made my own I actually took a similar approach to it. When I was making my monsters, I started with the movesets that I wanted them to have or what unique attributes they have. Then I’d decide on the [base form] of the creature, then adding it to how I pictured it’s habitat playing a role into it. Your design process is definitely interesting to compare too, I really love the detail on the scales.

@Ryan Linskey a school mascot is one specific thing, so calling it "the x" makes sense because you are referring to one individual thing. rathian on the other hand is a species of monster and thus there are more of them, so saying "the rathian" in this context, whilst technically not wrong, doesn't quite sound right. it'd be like always saying "the dog" when talking about dogs in general. it also makes it seem like this one rathian is different, like you'd only focus on cutting the tail off with this specific rathian but not the rest.

Amphibian: (so far) frogs with usual heads Carapaceon: crab, mostly based on ancient class systems Neopteran: bug (maybe more?) The monsters are more like animals, but they also stylize their important parts (Diablos’s massive horns and armor/Rathalos’s large wings, red coloring, and large head with flint like pedipalp-esc mandibles on the sides of their mouth) monster hunter monsters also tend to add in a pattern into the monster when it can have cloth-like parts (wings, feathers, fins, ect) a good design thing they do is make the silhouette of a basic thing (a bird for Anjananth) and then they make it so it looks like it from one angle, but change it from a different perspective

I made my own fanmade Monster Hunter creature for my ARK creature collection called Agnindirath. I do love their biology. Their anatomy is largely inspired by existing modded creatures including Dynamoterror from Primal Creations and Smok saurovindigo from Wild ARK. Their armor resembles that of Deviljho and Glavenus and they have metallic armor and axe like blades at the end of their tail as well as a Wyvern like head. They're also pyro and electrokinetic and are said to be magically powered.
