It looks soo great colin really i have to confirm it is a normal peace of wood,but when you dye it and wax it the figures come in where beautiful. Such a lovely peace of art thanks for video colin

Rami Alahmar Thanks Rami, yes it was a normal piece of wood, but what you could not see is that it had some figure in it, but I only found that out after planing it. Thanks for commenting

A great project Colin. It is amazing what woodworkers see in a piece of wood that others view as useless. I have taken advantage of boards similar to yours as they come off the Mill. They have no use as a board and would be typically cast onto the trash lift and burned or buried. I have been lucky in a few times. Great video Colin. Derek

GiddyUp994 Thanks Derek, I was pleased the way this one turned out, I wish I had the inspiration of an artist friend of mine who can turn any piece of wood into something ... sometimes I give or trade him wood, just to see what he can do with it. I guess I am a bit more of a tradionalist ...

Very nice Colin. You made good use of that slab. I saw a video some time ago about liquid glass a clear epoxy you pour over the wood. That wood be great for that tray you made. Thanks for the video Colin. Roland

Backyard Woodworkingricksite I think that product I picked up is the same or a similar product ... have not used it, have either of you experience with it?
@Rickmakes10 жыл бұрын
WoodWorkWeb I haven't used it. I know about it because SystemThree shared this video a couple of years ago on social media. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5SWaaZrh5yfftU I have used their regular epoxy when I built a kayak years ago and it was a great product. I imagine MirrorCoat is a pretty good product.

Nice work.... You can add tint to that epoxy.... A dark brown would look nice. Thanks for the video.

Joseph Muench Gee, that's a good question, I don't know that, what you can do is mix a bit of fine sawdust with it to color it that way .... good question, I will check with my supplier on the tinting

I have a personal question if you don't mind. I'm wondering which part of Canada you're from. I'm guessing the east coast. The reason I ask is I have a cousin in New Germany, and was wondering if you did any woodwork in that area. I don't mind if you don't want folks to know. But I'm nosey and thought I'd ask. Keeping making such informative videos. Thanks

Nicely done Colin. I've built a table with a live edge and used a 4" grinder and a wire wheel on the edges. It made for short work. Then I used a sanding mop to smooth and finish the edges. For epoxy, I often use hoof epoxy that I use on my horses. I comes in tan, black, or clear and is heavy bodied. Depending on the type it sets in 30 seconds or 5 minutes. Neither will run. It will hold a steel shoe to a hoof so there's no issue for strength. It rasps and sands well and is incredibly strong. Vetec is the manufacturer and can be purchases at Jeffers.com.
@knecht10510 жыл бұрын
Hardnox Thanks for the tips ... I was wishing I had a sanding mop for this project, you confirmed what I thought, that it would be ideal. I will look for that epoxy

Some nice content in your video. Could have been less than half in length easily and still covered everything amply. I rarely watch videos this long but unless my eyes deceive me that's a piece of ISO being used on your planer bed so I had to watch the whole thing, sort of like a train wreck. The train didn't wreck thankfully but that piece of ISO is not a good idea even if you've used it successfully for years. But we'll leave that discussion or another time. Thanks for sharing your knowledge to the WWing community I learned a few things too like I usually do when I watch another woodworker. Beautiful tray.
@knecht10510 жыл бұрын
Wood Barter ha, ha ... your article could have been a bit shorter too, I'm curious your theory on ISO
