Yes, you can use any woven fabric - not knit fabric. It would look great in waxed cotton as well. But you'll need to know how to sew for a fabric version. :)

So I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make this wristlet with clear vinyl. It is not no sew but it is pretty basic so you should be able to do it if you have a machine (you could even do it by hand.) Here's the link - www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-make-a-phone-wristlet/ I would suggest changing a few things. I would use about a 12 or 16 gauge vinyl. I also would simplify it a lot. If you are using the vinyl you don't need to have interlining or even several layers of fabric. You would just need to cut the one piece, fold, and then sew the edges. I hope that helps! As far as adding a pocket goes, that would be really easy too, but it would need to be sewn on right after you cut the material.

Maybe I am an idiot, but how does the construction of this bag prevent the sides from splitting open? Like..maybe I missed something? Nothing is holding the edges together, they're only secured at the top...

The eyelets/rivets are holding the folded sections together.
