hey Vicki, i'd air on the side of caution it's a little skinny, just between the two maybe. in saying that it all comes back to experimenting, how thick is the paper you will use to cover the chipboard and if it opens/closes easily at 1/8" sure you can use it. that's why I would use 3/16" just to be sure happy crafting ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna

should always glue the top and bottom edges over first. why? because if you glue the front edge in first there is always a tiny bump on the bottom when you glue the bottom and top over. When you pull the book in and out to use it, that bump will wear away leaving the exposed edge. Just a book binder tip ;)

Donna, can I do this with a soft thin ish fabric?
@JunkJournalideas Жыл бұрын
hey Vicki, yes you can...I would use the fabric glue and use the palm of your hand to press the fabric down onto the book board not your fingers, your fingers will cause glue spots to seep through. another good idea would be to turn your light fabric into a book cloth first, this will be so much better or the glue may come through no matter how light handed you are. you could use a light weight iron on interfacing on the back of the fabric or make it a DIY book cloth ✂️🤩🦋 hugs Donna

I have started a journal. Thanks for all the tips so far. I made the covers with chipboard. I am about to glue in the 3 signatures which are pamphlet sewn onto a chipboard piece so the strings will be hidden. I am concerned about warping or bowing. I have had to keep the cover under weights to prevent warping each time I glued paper to it. How can I assure the spine will not warp since I will not be able to put it under books? I am using fabri-tac glue which is pretty powerful stuff. I looked through your videos. Do not see this covered. Thanks.
@JunkJournalideas2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ann, its great to see you up to this stage.. my thoughts on warping are usually the glue that is water based. but if your using the fabritac its not water based so that should reduce/eliminate the warping. the other reason warping takes place is because of direction, cardboard has a grain as does paper, so maybe chipboard does as well? I haven't used chipboard for covers I use bookboard, and it has a direction, if you cut it the wrong way it will warp. check this video out about board grain kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH3KY4Rpg8iVrcU and this video about warping kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIjaZ3RtiLSVedE I wish I could be more help about chipboard but i haven't used it. ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna

hi Kathryn, 1/4" is a rule of thumb, if you feel in needs to be wider you sure can make it wider just by a small amount that you feel it needs it so you don' go to the opposite way that it's now too wide. the other thing is 1/ can you tell me if you used cardstock or paper for the cover? 2/ cardstock or paper for the inside cover? then we can talk some more ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna

When I put paper on the inside it puffs up everywhere when I try to close it slowly for the grooves. Not working for me

So many of us make journals from kits that use 8.5 x 11" pages folded in half, with a bit of the Border trimmed off(1/4" all the way around), but it's nearly impossible to find anyone that shows how to make the cover of a journal using those measurements 🤔😥, which would be about 5 1/4 wide x 7 3/4" inch tall..

hey Carla, here in Australia we use A4 paper size, even though I'm stuck in the past and love to swing between inches and centimeters lol. any journal made from scratch, the measurements can be changed to suit the paper page size you want to use. hope I have understood you correctly ♡☆🦋 hugs Donna happy crafting
