it's mind blowing to me to see the final build at the end and how good it looks and look back at it while you're making it with all the colored foam. I would never have thought you could finish it that good. I picked up a bunch of supplies and I'm going to try to build my own based on this video. I built mine in 2 days but i also spent like 16 hours on it. That was for me building and painting. I went with Plasti Dip instead of the water down white glue as a sealant. That helped me speed up the process a little I think.

Well it doesn't work for me, It won't glue and the measurements I got made the wrist 18 million time too small. Halloween is coming soon and I really want to add this to my costume but I can't get the pieces right. What are the EXACT measurements he had? I did the same thing he did but mine came out too small to fit my fingers through. Fuck it, I'm almost out of foam anyway, I'll just duck tape the shit.

meageekygirl It really depends on how much of the materials you need to buy and where you buy them from. All of these materials were left over from other builds I didn't calculate the cost but thin EVA foam is between $10-$30, paint $3-$12, and hot glue is about $6. The tap light was from a dollar store.

I just started to make my foam Pipboy like WJ did in the tutorial. Instead of using the foam squares for the base, I decided to use a foam bedroll that I bought at a surplus store. It's dense but not very thick so it won't be very bulky. I have the elbow and wrist part made and put together. My first thought...this fits GREAT on my arm.....hmm what if I want to wear a coat/duster as part of a bigger costume for Fallout? Then it won't fit over a coat. Keep that in mind when measuring/making your foam pipboy. Will you be wearing it bare arm or over clothing. makes a difference for sure.

I'm in the process of copying this piece and realized all his measurements are worthless to me because my EVA foam is just a tiny bit thicker. My first attempt ended up total failure. Right now I'm using this video as a guide to the general shape each piece should be and I'm at 1:25 working on that wider base getting the measurements right. Thanks so much for this video!

Oh and thanks for posting this tutorial I tried doing a method like this to make a giant robot gauntlet like that in Eon Kid but now that is see this I'll try this and see how well it works. Thanks again oh and I see your still using hot glue. Might I suggest using Barge all purpose contact cement? Or E6000? I personally use it on all my stuff and it works ALOT better and holding a final piece together than hot glue cuz you know. Heat is its worst enemy

it doesn't really matter that much. I think I used spray paint on this one but just recently i built one out of green foam and used acrylic paint to weather it. I shot a video for that one too.
