Thanks for indulging me, folks. I truly hope you enjoyed the video. Don't worry, I'm going RIIIGGHT back to creating painting lessons for ya ;) Want to buy this board?? --> marcobucciartstore.com/products/pixelartgoomba I wanted to add: the materials for this board cost somewhere around $80 CAD. In that sense these are quite cheap to make. The time involved, however ... that's where the heavy resources come in. If you are new to woodworking, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROJECT. It took me about two years of skill building before I could pull it off; you have to really know your tools. If you're interested in getting into woodworking, the best channel out there (IMO) is Steve Ramsey's 'Woodworking For Mere Mortals.' Check it out!

Hey, I am happy I found you. You are a very entertained, knowledgably and talented artist. A bit messy all catch in camera, lol but i think all artist are. Just need someone behind picking and cleaning for a better mind set i believe. In any case thanks so much for your simply yet instructive video. Keep going pal!

obviously it makes spacial sense, as woodworking simply requires much more space than digital art, but i really like the philosophy of dedicating more of your house to your hobbies than your work

8:46 The grain direction might not matter aesthetically, but in order for it to be structurally sound they should all be facing the same way so they expand in the same direction. Because you made this in the winter (low humidity), the seams will press together in the spring (high humidity) causing the glue joints to slip over time. If you make this in the summer there's a good chance those cross grain joints will be pulled apart within a couple seasons. Wood by Wright has a good video explaining how and why wood moves. Ideally something like this would be veneered or 100% end grain to avoid any glue surface or wood movement problems as it ages.
@marcobucci
@marcobucci 2 жыл бұрын
This is true. I do adhere to that knowledge on more "regular" cutting boards (and actually have thought about switching my process on these to make it all endgrain). I've been careful to monitor these pixel boards throughout the seasons (we have wide humidity changes here in Toronto, Canada, so it's a good place to track humidity related stuff), but thankfully I've yet to see any glue joints fail on these. My theory is that those tiny little pixels are no match to move the larger, heavy pieces of maple that surround them. But who knows, maybe in a few more years I'll change my tune, lol! Edit - your veneering idea is great. I hadn't thought of that! Could get like 4 boards out of 1 project. Time to tune up the ol' neglected bandsaw.

"Now I promise my channel is not going to switch to woodworking!" That made me laugh, thinking of everyone tuning in and saying "what the hell is this?! I came here to work on my values!!" And, "the show wasn't Friends, by the way. That was just an example" gave me a good belly laugh, that one! Great video, Marco! Expertly made and very enjoyable, as always. Best wishes to you and family.

Hey MaBuccico, I am a 3D artists, checking your top notch tutorials out here on YT every now and then, loving all of them. This year my girlfriend and I made a living room shelf (planned it in Blender actually :D) which was quite the undertaking for us as we cut the wood and everything ourselves for the first time, limited in time as we are young parents of a beautiful little girl also. So before we started the project I checked countless woodworking videos, by professional tailors, etc. and boy I wished I had just seen the video I am watching right now, you did such a great job of getting all the information down to what matters and some of your solutions are better even. Cheers for sharing, take care. I can really see the effort you put into this video and the artwork, great work!

(and I want to get into art full time) Also is pretty cool to find out you're Canadian (or at least living in Canada) cause I'm over in Saskatchewan! Keep up the good work man 🤟😎👊

Marco, I absolutely loved this! I envy a bit your woodworking area, and I really admire you have all those tools and the knowledge to use them. I imagine you bought stuff bit by bit, and I'm tempted to ask how much did it all cost, but I'd prefer knowing the order in which you bought all your tools and for what needs. Very curious about it, and wouldn't really mind if you started a side channel on your hobby. I'm all in for that as well 🤩
@marcobucci

Glad you liked it! To answer your question, my first few tools were a table saw, a drill/impact driver kit, and a few clamps. You can get started with just that for maybe $500 bucks! Did a few beginner projects with that for several months, then bought a miter saw, bandsaw, drill press and router. Probably another $600-800 there. That was more than enough tools to do lots and lots of projects! Just make sure to buy gear when it's on sale, or used. It was almost 2 years later when I started to develop the skills to justify additions like that jointer and planer. (Planer alone is about $800, and only does one very specific thing!) So my theory was to first buy the tools that give you the ability to do the most things (table saw!) and then kinda whittle down from there, as dictated by your projects :)

I put little cutting board feet on them (not seen in this video) to get the board up off of countertop moisture. Also the wax does a good job of repelling moisture, though does need replenishing every few months.
