How To Make A Portable Electric Fence Charger Run Off Of A Battery

Hey everyone, in this video I'll show you an easy way to make a portable battery operated fence charger using only a few items. This has been great for my pigs. It last a lot longer than my solar fence charger. We get a lot of clouds around here. We're using a 12 volt battery, a battery box, and a DC fence charger.

I don't care about your lawn, lol! I did sub, though, to see some more about your pigs. I am going to tap into a small solar battery system I have in the back 40 for a chicken coop used for lights and winter water deicers. The coyotes are getting bothersome to say the least so it's time. Cheers from Ontario, Canada.

That’s already a battery operated charger. Title made me think you were showing how to convert a plug in unit into a battery. Good video still, just misleading title. Converting an AC to DC is what I was looking for.

Yeah I don't think the title is misleading at all. But you'll just need an inventor to make your situation work. It's pretty easy to hook up.

Nichols County not “misleading” . More “misread” I should have said. I read it as “how to make a portable charger” in a sense that you were going to convert a unit into a portable unit and not an already portable unit installation. Make sense! LOL It was on ME misunderstanding the title and halfway through the video saying, “wait, I thought he was converting a unit”. Not meaning that you put a misleading title. Hope that made sense.

Nichols County yeah, I have an inverter. I’ve even thought about trying to see if it will push both my fence charger and a small trickle charger. So that I would continuously recharge itself! LOL that’s how I found your video. I did get a good idea from it about the battery box to mount and contain everything! I was thinking of building a wood box and mount everything in it and after watching your video it was like “duh!” Why didn’t I think about that! So I’m still glad I watched it!

How long is your grounding rod?

Would it work on a small mesh door that is insulated and about 6 feet wide by 3 feet high? Also, do you know if I’m using it indoor without access to a ground would it work if I connected the ground wire to any large piece of metal?

Should work on a door no problem. Might not need that big of a charger though. As long as it's grounded somewhere it will work.

The energizer comes with everything you need.

As the battery I don't see why not. You will still need a fence charger to send the shock.

I change it out once a week. But it really depends on how many weeds you have around those fence lines.

I thought negative was supposed to go to grounding rod?

It does. In the video you can see me hooking it up to the ground on my other energizer. But a ground rod is what you need.
