Fun to throw but as far as accuracy goes, I couldn’t hit a cow in the ass with a snow shovel.

I’ve always had better luck with the pouch ends being reversed. Left over right, rotate, left over right. It always seems to have a cleaner release.

Nice job, I point out that a staff is about shoulder height though, either way you're a little short on the stick you have chosen.

Your staff is about 0.5m too short. Nice explanation on making the pouch. 👍

Well that depends on what you want to use it for. This staff sling is the perfect size for what it's meant for, and it's meant to fit in my backpack and sling medium sized projectiles:) However if your goal is to sling a 3 pound stone you might want to go with a longer staff and shorter cords.

Do staff slings fling harder & farther than hand slings? I would imagine so but not sure. The biggest problem I see with both is that the crack is really loud, tipping off skittish prey.
@minvonadventures
@minvonadventures Жыл бұрын
Good question! I've been using both a hand sling and a staff sling for awhile now and they're very different but the main difference would be the size of the recommended stone. A hand sling is much harder to master since the technique is all about building up speed before the throw while the staff sling is just a one big swing, but the staff adds more leverage so you can throw larger stones with it. If I use a big stone (size of tennis ball) the staff sling throws farther and if I use a small stone (size of golf ball) the hand sling throws farther. Now if I'd use a stone in between those sizes for both slings it probably comes down to which one I'm better at with the technique. And now I have to make a video of it to find out!

Where Can I get some skinny camouflage yoga pants like those?

Hi there, funny you should mention it as I have been searching for years for another pair of those in the same color and material. I bought them years ago in a store here in Iceland that unfortunately is now closed and these have been my all time best outdoor/hiking pants since they're light, stretchable and very durable due to high polyester. The inside tag is long gone so I don't even know the brand but I guess I'll just keep my eyes open;) You can try to order some online but in my experience you NEVER get what you were hoping for.

If I would've struck a bird the whole internet would cyber attack me so I did my best to avoid that;) This was my first time staff slinging so I was just tryna get used to the sling movement before anything else. I've been slinging for some time now so I will be destroying some targets soon! A flying target is a whole other level though..

Hello, thanks for pointing that out! I wasn't sure what size I wanted to go for as this was my first staff sling. I knew I wanted to be able to carry it on my packback comfortably so I decided to go for this size. After using it for awhile though I found out that the paracord was too long for the staff so I shortened the cord in another video and it worked much better that way. I think at the end of the day there's no right or wrong size, just different variations. But ofcourse according to ancient history there might have been some specific proportion that they used.
@kezzatries
@kezzatries Жыл бұрын
@@minvonadventures a lot of historians say that David used a sling. Others say, and I agree, that he most likely used a Shepard's staff sling. Being a Shepard. If your staff is shoulder height your sling should drop to about elbow height, that not only gives about the right proportion for your sling, but you can also put you hand through the sling and grab the staff, the sling now helps hold your hand up reducing the need to grab it tightly, a good walking staff. The longer staff also gives you the opportunity to lengthen your swing. Giving more power.
@minvonadventures
@minvonadventures Жыл бұрын
@@kezzatries That's really interesting! I know that longer staff gives more power for heavier projectiles but I think a smaller staff gives more accuracy. But maybe the staff sling was never intended for great accuracy but rather destruction while the sling was all about technique and accuracy. The proportion for a sling and a comfortable walking stick is a really thoughtful idea though! I'll make one soon:)

I prefer a staff to be longer than yours, I’m 6’2” tall so I want a staff to be between 4’ and 5’ long. The sling cords to be about 14” to 16” long. I don’t like them longer than this. Now I’m an old guy in his mid 70s and can throw a stone the size of a chickens egg in excess of a 100 yards. A much younger guy will throw a lot further than my old arms and shoulders can.

@@peterreece6547 I can hear you have a lot of experience, that's pretty cool! I think it takes some time to figure out what size works best for you and it should also depend on the purpose you're going to use it for, if it's for a target or simply for slinging the furthest.
