Nice work Shawn. There are plenty of videos of guys flint knapping or building traditional bows and there is nothing wrong with that but, it's refreshing to see a channel with more depth to it.

I'm going to order some flax seeds for this spring now! IDK if its historically accurate but I make my bottom loop bigger and my top one stays on the nock, that way it stays on the bow when I set it in the corner.

Great video! By the way, I remember that beeswax is also used in sewing to make fabric waterproof. Did you ever try using it on your sinew strings too?

I like the string. Why not do a reverse twist to the string when your making it? Might be stronger too?

Good vid, man. Useful stuff. Gonna plant some seeds in the upcoming spring. Flax fibers seem to do the job. My best natural candidate (out of those available to me) for this job was nettle fibers. Now I'm gonna try flax too. Thanks again bro. Greetz.

i bought some natural hemp fibre from a craft store it looks like a string. i braided 3 strands together and its incredible strong i havent had one break on me yet on my longbow. and its only 1/8 inch thick

Kimberly Cabanas, if you dip it in hot liquid pine or birch resin it will work. They used resin for boats/ships, rope, etc back in the day.

Hey Shawn, great video. Have you found any source material for native peoples shooting bare handed? I can imagine someone shooting a low poundage bow without protection but a 70-75 bow must be painful for quite a while.

Ryan Gunnison yeah sinew works really well, it's a good strong string, but if it gets too wet it can go a bit rubbery and be hard to work with :)

Yes and no. Hemp (marijuana) is incredibly strong, but what you can legally obtain is poor quality and will not be anywhere as strong.

Northern Woodsman European hemp has no psychoactive effects and is just as strong.
