How to Make A Pwnagotchi with Waveshare V3 Screen! Easiest Method, Works First Time, Every Time!

Today I'm going to take you through the whole process of making your very own pwnagotchi using the currently available Waveshare V3 screen! This process was a little confusing for me and many others, so I made the easiest, most streamlined tutorial available!!

Best timing ever. I just built mine 3 days ago and just realised as I'm using it headless, waiting for the waweshare to arrive, that I ordered a V3. Remember if you flash the 1.5.5 it won't go into ai mode for whatever reason. A workaround is to flash the previous version and enable bt tethering and have it auto update.

@@cyberspacemanmike 1.5.5fi doesnt work for me, first boot is good, but once it loads into AI mode, it just doesnt do much, sometimes it will just freeze up with status "Ai mode loaded" and other times it will load AI and just not detect any networks..

@@Alriskeke If you interrupt the initial startup it can corrupt the keys. Sometimes the initial startup will take 20mins or more in my experience. In general it takes a long time to boot.

If you are having trouble ftp'ing into your pwnagotchi you need to delete the "#" symbol in front of "permitrootlogin yes", it will fix the problem.

At around 11:30: I'm updating my config.toml to match, but when I restart nothing happens. In the FTP, it doesn't show the id_rsa.pub, id_rsa, or fingerprint files. this probably has already been suggested, but for changing display mode into dark/light you don't have to modify the scripts in the system files. Use "ui.invert = [true/false]" (one of them without the brackets) in your config.toml instead

The bash files can be found in the guerilla step guide. Your v4 will work but keeps blinking then change the name in the config file from whaveshare 4 to 3. Let me know if it works for you!

I'm have trouble getting my pwnagotchi to ssh in while I've got internet sharing active. I can connect through ssh when it's not active, but then I can't run the script to update the v3 drivers. I get a message when I activate internet sharing that the ip is changing and that other devices might lose connection, and I didn't see that here in the video. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

And once you get to step 5 in the xycl0se tutorial the bin file will work. Step 2.3 is CRUCIAL and so is making sure that the ip of your pwnagotchi is correct after sharing your network.

I've started marking the ports on the pi zero. I can never remember which is power. Might be a good case mod. A power symbol on the correct side. I just use a little sticker right now.

With the Waveshare V4 you need to find the image 1.5.5 FIX. This should be the only modification that needs to be made to the config. ui.display.enabled = true ui.display.type = "waveshare_3" ui.display.color = "black" ui.fps = 1 and everything should start up just fine, and work exactly the same. @@ScottyP5947 not for me. Got all the way until the end when loading all the libraries and such from GitHub and it just wouldn’t pull the last few of them. I’m not a programmer or computer science person so I don’t really know why. In looking through the libraries or directories it was trying to download it said “Waveshare v3” a lot so I don’t know if that had something to do with it. Like maybe I need to be pulling different ones since it’s the v4. Been trying to find the v3 screen since and no luck. Bought 4 of them, all v4.

It took me a lot of time to it make work (like 3 days XD), i didn't had image so i thought my screen was broken since i had ssh connection but couldn't get image. finally i realize (Didn't notice earlier XD my bad...) that the shared connection was the issue (couldn't pass from git pull cmd), try it a couple of times more and viola! worked like a charm (using waveshare v3 and pisugar 3).. thanks bro! amazing work there!

I forgot I commented elsewhere I found the fix, at least for me, it's really stupid - if you copy and pasted the json settings from the Internet into notepad some of the characters are improperly encoded so just type the json manually. It's a specific character, but I forget which one.

Hey trying to follow the FTP portion of this guid. I’ve tried a few times making sure everything is just as it should be When I am in nano and try to save, when I press enter I just get the usb disconnect connect sound as a sort of denial sound and nothing progresses. It won’t let me save sshd_config file after the changes. Now I recognize it’s probably related to the read only permission, but I though the whole Sudo su thing and sudo before nano /ect/….. was supposed to give you write privlages Any idea why it won’t let me save the file? Ps I’m on W10 in power shell, the gotchi works and fires up all be it stuck in AI mode (but that’s another topic) and I started the unit via the jayoffellonys version. And used the wizard ect as per your most recent video. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
