Living in a sub tropical / tropical environment I've found this to be the most useful rust and lubrication system. The can is always on the bench handy. Use a tool, wipe it before storing it. Done!

I live in Nicaragua where humidity is always so so high. It’s a constant battle against rust. I use beeswax but I’m going to give this a try.

For taking care of that lip in the can, an easier way (and neater result) is to use a can opener. It cuts a thin ring of metal and flattens the remaining lip really flat against the wall of the can.

Hi Luke way back in 1976 I worked with two carpenters in a big hotel complex and they used a small nescafe glass jar with lid. The old jars had a bulbus end at the bottom which was filled with oil then the rag pushed in tight with some oil coming over the top. The lid screwed on only a couple of turns because the rag sticks up about 5mm above the top rim. Then tuned upside-down for a couple of days for the oil to soak though. Mine is still going strong haven't had to refill it yet. You bought back some good memories thanks for the videos Steve.

I used a plastic soda bottle instead of a can, works better as it has a bit of give. Just cut a bottle 500 ml of coke in half and it works wonders. Many thanks mate as always for your great stuff

Do you happen to have a video on a light restoration of a metal hand plane? I'm embarrassed to admit that I neglected some tools after moving lol It's not "locked away in my great-great-grandfathers attic, complete overhaul" levels of neglect, but a video on taking off a bit of rust, truing up the sole, and maybe some polish/finishing touches would be amazing. Also great video as always :D

I use Camelia oil in my can oiler, a little more expensive than 3 in 1 but oil doesn't evaporate so it lasts a very long time 🕐, I also use it on wooden handles and totes, and garden tools, broom handles etc

Yes, mine does that after a few days if it's hot, i find an air tight container helps to stop that

Whiskey in the jar, oiler in the can. Apologies to Thin Lizzy. I use mine with deodorant to help manage the BO in the workshop. Sorry, I don't have a serious comment.
