Thanks Guy! I still cant decide which box I like best because the cherry/green is also great to look at.

This is a very nice box - I like your choice of colours! The splines and raised panels give this a very distinct character. Thanks for sharing!

It turned out great! Great instruction. The blue would not have been my choice, but it really looks good against that dark walnut.

Thanks Bruce. I wanted to try something a little different.

I wonder if I could cut those panels on table saw without cutting my hand off. I need to get a wixey angle gauge too. my 45 degree stop is way off
@Simplecove8 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can. I would set up an auxiliary fence to help in keeping the panel from slipping or falling.

I second what Sean said. There are several jigs out there as well, if you want to be extra safe. Bob Van Dyke has a plan for a multi-purpose fence jig that allows for possibilities for raised panels, tenons, and some other operations if you'd like an option that is "extra safe": www.finewoodworking.com/how-to/video/multi-use-tablesaw-rip-fence.aspx

How do you maintain the 45 degree bevel while hand planing?

Beautiful boxes! When you applied finish to the box did you continue applying it to the raised panel also? Or was that part completed before glue up?
@Simplecove8 жыл бұрын
No, I didn't apply any more finish to the lid. Thank you!

How do you go about cleaning off the dried glue that seeps in the inside corner after you have shellac on the wood?
@Simplecove8 жыл бұрын
I used a chisel to remove the glue. Since the insides of the box were waxed and shellac, it popped right off.

How does your hand planes work so good? I got a $25-6 inch one from Home Depot and when I use it it always catches and I can't get a clean line.
@Simplecove8 жыл бұрын
Watch a few Paul Sellers videos on tuning hand planes and you will have a plane in good shape that will make fine shavings.
@MrMarlin033 жыл бұрын
What number plane do you recommend
@Simplecove3 жыл бұрын
Number 4 or 5

I repurposed the crosscut sled into a miter sled and put brass screws too close to the fence. It sliced into one of the screws. Didn't damage the blade but I won't be doing that again lol.
