Originally when I made this video, I was thinking how to make a Christmas tree cone out of paper but now, with the popularity of gnomes, it's more like how to make a gnome hat out of paper.
How to make a cone hat is the basis for a gnome, a witch, a Christmas tree, a princess and a wizard. Whether you make it out of paper, cardstock or in this case posterboard, the gnome hat it going to be great!

I've seen the tall cones made using grapevine and wondered how they did it!!! Now I know! I'm going to make the paper cone, wrap with cling film and wrap with a thicker jute I've soaked in Elmer's glue or mod podge. Let it dry for a day or so and then pull the cone out gently and then Wa-La, I'll have a cone for my front porch!! I'll have to spray it with something to make it water proof so I can leave it on the front porch as a decoration. Thank you for making it easy for me to make!

Have you ever tried using plastic for these cones? I have a crazy idea of making a semi-transparent tree, and putting a multi-colored Disco-light inside of it.

That sounds like a GREAT idea! You might want to look in the art supply department of your local craft store. They sell rolls of a clear film for covering artwork, etc. What I've got is called Dura-Lar, and you can get it in various thicknesses (thicker would probably be sturdier, obviously). It's not super cheap, but it's a pretty big roll, good quality, and I find myself using it for all sorts of things. I'd love to see the result if you try this.

You can make them out of any color. You can make it out of craft foam too, but you would want the ends to meet, not overlap, since it's so thick. You could do any color poster board, or wrapping paper, anything really, as long as it is bendy enough.

Hi Arthur- I don't usually have a size in mind when I do it. It would depend on the size of your paper, but you can adjust the bottom somewhat when you are making it. Wish I had a better answer. I tend to fly by the seat of my pants on this. Mona
