why not use the "offset" filter ? it's way easier I feel... that way you have the 2 lines at the center and you can work on them directly

+lo zero Indeed, the offset filter is the easiest way to do it. Of course, the method shown in the tutorial is not wrong by any means, though, just somewhat unnecessarily complex.
@vitaliyhavrylyuk13279 жыл бұрын
+lo zero 3D artists are used to this sort of texture work and offset is the tool to use.

Handy to know this but what is the offset filter and how do you use that Aaron?
@Hilde_mann9 жыл бұрын
I would have used the offset filter method as well. So you actually see directly what you're doing. To even out the lights and darks I normally just duplicate the texture (before using the offset filter), invert and desaturate the new layer, use a gaussian blur with a pretty high radius, and set the layer to overlay-/soft light blending mode. It's very easy and you've got a perfect base to work with... :-)

Quick question about the size of patterns when they are saved vs the size they show up when you use them for a fill layer. If I create a seamless pattern that is 3" x 3" and save it to my preset manager. When I go to use the Fill Layer > Pattern, shouldn't my pattern reflect that 3x3 size at 100% scale. At the moment when I use my pattern as a fill layer it is much bigger than 3x3 at 100% scale. The pattern shows up as 12" x 12" at 100% scale. Any ideas why this is happening. I work in textile patterns so the scale of the file I send to digital printers is very important.

The one thing i would ask why do you not use the offset filter at the last stage is their a good reason? although i have used the copy paste an image and tiling by hand i have also tried mirroring the images and tile together for a larger area of wood! or marble so that i get the largest sample of pattern repeat The cad program will tile any proportion image so with most wood finishes you need the length on the pattern repeat (not the height so much ) of the image I had been having trouble with colour balance and shading over an area looked very good on the screen at the start . ( I have been making up Appearances for a 3D CAD program tiled jpeg files all done withing the cad program ) But i have found even when taking the photos my self out side on an bright but overcast day very soft light the image looks good until l try to tile them but the more tiled objects you get in the finished image the more the faults show up This techniques give you a lot more control than some of the other i have tried out sofar !

@MurraySevern_of_Australia9 жыл бұрын
As others have said, using the Offset Filter would be much easier to do the seam removal, and you don't need to stretch the canvas and make a copy of the image to place it against opposite edges to check the work.

Hi, my name is Marianne and I am a beginner photographer. I'm glad I found your channel since I found a lot of useful stuff here. Today I have a question and it's not about Photoshop, but I didn't know where to post it. Hope you don't mind. Here's my question: When my camera is in manual mode and my flash is in TTL mode do I still have to set aperture, ISO and shutter speed for ambient light on the camera or will the camera take care of it automatically? Thank you very much in advance, I would really appreciate if you get back to me as I have nobody else I could ask. Marianne

There is a more simple method to make the seamless edges (left to right - top to bottom). By using the command: Filter\Other\ Offsets... (with the option "wrap around enabled". You basically first offset to one side (is the image is 1000pixels you offset 500pixels) you remove the seams and then offset again to move it back to the original position. Then the same thing but vertically
