How to make a ribbon rose with wired ribbon

Materials: 1.3m of wire edge ribbon or our Ribbon Rose Craft Kit and a needle and thread.
All you'll need to make a beautiful ribbon rose is 1.3m of wired ribbon, a tack stitch, and a little guidance from our video tutorial above.
All you'll need is 1.3m of wired ribbon and a tack stitch. The only tiny difficulty involved is choosing which ribbons to go for; ribbon roses can be made with solid colour or ombré wired ribbon, you can make tight rosebuds with narrow ribbon, or big voluptuous blooms that could almost hold their own at the Chelsea Flower Show with wide ribbon.

Once you've made your beautiful creations with a little help from our video tutorial above, you can sew them onto lampshades, curtains, or cushions, make a fabulous corsage, pop onto a hat, or simply display a selection of flowers in a glass bowl. A mix of colours looks fantastic and proportion also plays its part, so arrange different coloured mini-buds among bigger blooms (like those our kit will make) - all shades, shapes, and sizes jostling for space together.

Very lovely and something I learned to create decades ago (I used to sell berets and accessories adorned with smaller ribbon roses that I crushed a bit for a vintage look). For anyone seeing this, these roses can be made with much less ribbon and still be just as beautiful. If you don’t wish to stitch, you can add hot glue or strong fabric glue to the back with a small circle of felt, being sure to include the concentric edges of the inner back of the rose. You can also add brooch or hair clip finding. I love to clip these onto to wrapped gifts so the recipient has a “gift on a gift”, which not only makes a stunning presentation, but is always joyfully received. Oh, one more thing, these also make gorgeous Christmas tree ornaments.
