Time to make my first scrappy quilt using improv blocks 🥰😃 Such a fun project to work on! What do you do with your scraps?
@lisabird13635 жыл бұрын
Sugaridoo I use a scrap management system-cut scraps into 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 strips and blocks and 5 and 10 inch blocks. Then I use them in many precut patterns or strip piecing or improv. Works well for me.

Brilliant idea to separate them into warm and cool fabrics.

I used my quilt scraps to make scrappy crumb blocks, then cut out alphabet letters saying "WELCOME" that matches with the quilt! So cute! Just one small idea, but end result is great.

When a quilt project is completed, I take the left over fabric and cut it up into blocks of mainly 10" and 5" squares and two and half inch strips. Fabric pieces (left over material as I am cutting up pieces for a quilt project) goes into a small basket on my sewing table which I use as leaders and enders. These pieces become part of my crumb quilts; I save on thread and I do not loose fabric down the hole! Many of the smaller squares, I will also use as leaders and enders for upcoming scrap quilts. I like making scrap quilts and I use these 'new blocks' when I put one together. What I most like about sewing scraps as I sew other projects is that I no longer have containers of left over fabric and my storage as gone from many large totes (over 8 at one time) to 4 plastic shoe boxes and a small basket. The space I have gained is incredible. I enjoy your videos!

Some great ideas for dealing with left over fabric after the project is complete, and good ideas to have sizes already cut for future projects such as a scrappy binding. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for making such a fun and colorful project. Your improv style makes me want to loosen up and enjoy quilting. You don’t seem to care about straight of grain or bias edges. You do what feels good and looks good and then fit it into your vision. It’s refreshing to watch you break a few “rules” and still have a great outcome.

I have been making crumb blocks and scrappy blocks for a few months and absolutely love doing them. It's great to just sit and sew without worrying about matching points and perfect !/4 in. seams. I love your blocks using the same color family and the half square triangles. Thanks for a great tutorial!!

You could probably make one whole big sheet of scraps for each color instead of limiting yourself by block size. Then cut multiple blocks from your newly pieced fabric sheet. You would have less small pieces of scraps in the end. Love those colors! (I don't normally like orange but those are beautiful.)

Aww thank you so much! 💕😃 It's really such a fun project. And very doable since making one sceappy block doesn't take too much time. So you can make a scrappy block every now and then and slowly grow your quilt.

Hello, I am a little late to the Sugaridoo party, but yay! So glad to have found you! Your happy smile and straightforward style are heartwarming. I love your fresh bright colors so much! And I've never been one to buy plain fabric. I know, I know, it's needed to make the patterns stand out, but man oh man. I need me at least a dot or line or something!! Never just a PLAIN color! It almost breaks my heart!! lol I'm so glad this magic 8 technique was new to you too, I don't feel so bad now. Just goes to show to never assume everyone knows what you know. I just watched your update video from July 2020, so am eagerly awaiting your new book, quilt along kit, and your e-course!!! Much love to you across the ocean from Canada!

You are so creative and always make me smile! I have that machine and I've found that if I don't engage the even feed mechanism when I have on the feet with a 'D' (like the 97D), my stitches aren't as nice as when I have it down. I noticed you do not engage yours, have you found that yours works fine without it?

@DH-qz2so5 жыл бұрын
Instead of tea and cake, you should use the donation money to buy a Spinning Cutting Mat to slice in-between your sewn seam lines...so after you mark and sew all the needed seams...just slice, spin, slice, spin...you don't need to move your squares in order to do the next cut! :-)

Uh oh, the dual feed needs to be engaged to use a D foot. 😘
@loriar10275 жыл бұрын
Amy Cardenal I don’t think you have to use the dual feed. I have the same machine and I sometimes use that foot just for the 1/4” guide.
@amycardenal48485 жыл бұрын
loriar1027, sure you can, but your stitches may be less precise and sometimes pretty wonky. That’s because there is an opening on the back of the foot for the dual feed. Without the dual feed, there is nothing sitting on the center row of feed dogs. At least that is how it was explained to me at work. Sometimes I forget to pull it down and my stitches look ok, but it sounds funky. I’m glad you haven’t had any trouble, I love my 770!
@Sugaridoo5 жыл бұрын
Yes thanks! Still have to get used to my new machine 😅

Yes you do need to use the dual feed foot with a D foot Lori’s Place!!!

I sometimes forget to use the dual feed with the D feet, Bernina is great, but they should have an alert on the machine to remind you to use it 😵💫😜😩

Irene. I recently purchased your e book in English and was surprised that the instructions are not in English. I tried to find contact for you but couldn't. So this is the only way I could let you know. I did not discover the error until I had already printed 153 pages. How can I get the Instructions in English? I'm new to paper piecing so I need instruction. Linda

Hoi Irene, leuke video.
@Sugaridoo5 жыл бұрын
Hoi Cindy! Die is gemaakt van plate piepschuim met daarover een laag tussenvulling. Gewoon een katoenen tussenvulling of molton zorgt dat lapjes blijven plakken. Grotere blokken kun je dan met spelden in het piepschuim prikken 😃
@cmaenhout5 жыл бұрын
Sugaridoo super dank je wel😁 ga eens kijken of ik daar thuis een plekje voor kan vinden om dat te maken..
@bumblebaa23275 жыл бұрын
wat interessant, jij snijdt eerst, maakt dan compositie en gaat dan naaien (en weer verder composeren). Ik naai eerst stukken aan elkaar, snij ze dan pas en pas ze verder aan. I guess I do my composition at a much later stage. Or perhaps I'm working with smaller scraps from the start. Either way, nice to see your process!

The point of scrappy blocks is to find pieces to fit together then square at the end. You made this difficult
@loriar10275 жыл бұрын
Jana Gatton the point of a scrappy block is to make a block-in any way you choose. What you see as difficult may really just be creative. To each his own, eh?
