LOVE this!! I am attempting right now! Quilting is brand new for me and I've been watching video after video so I can learn. I'm trying to figure out if I can do this type as a "quilt as you go" since it will likely be quite an ordeal for me to do the quilting part once the blocks are together. I've almost got all my strips cut and then over the next couple of days, I'll be sewing them together, making the "tube" and so forth. Thank you for your wonderful tutorial. Even a beginner like me has hope!
@sisterchicksquilting2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching my video😍❣️ May I be so bold as to give you some advice? I wouldn’t try a quilt as you go method on that quilt. There are quilt patterns specifically made for quilting as you go., you might want to try one of those types first. In fact in a couple of weeks I’m going to make a table runner that is quilt as you go. You also might try straight line quilting on your domestic. There are a lot of tutorials out there about straight line quilting how to get it through your machine how to roll it, etc. Since this is going to be one of your first quilts, I would pay to have someone machine quilt it. No offense is intended, I’ve just had a lot of experience with first time and newer quilters. Again, TFW😍❣️

@@sisterchicksquilting No offense taken at all! Thank you for your advice. I recently ordered a walking foot and it has a guide bar on it so I will watch some tutorials about using it. I'm determined to figure this stuff out. I've been at home during all this ...nonsense... so I've got nothing but time on my hands. I watched tutorials at the start of the pandemic to learn how to make masks and they were able to teach this old dog some new tricks so hopefully I can get some simple quilts done! Thank you again - I'm looking forward to watching your videos and learning as I go. 🙂

That is how I started quilting on my domestic was with a walking foot and the guide bar. The difficult part for me was when I quilted (the design was cross hatching) a queen size quilt on my domestic! LOL The quilt was so big which made the project quite a difficult task. You know I'm an old dog too and am glad you're learning new tricks!

@@sisterchicksquilting Well this should get interesting...I just picked out the seams of the first batch and I'm pretty sure I already messed up. @@Janorama56 Don't be so hard on your self. I picked out the wrong seams several times while I was making this quilt. Don’t know how I missed this video. Was searching for the TAW pattern and saw Kates from the last homely house but was looking for more scrappy. Love your idea but especially how you were of making the tube and separating. My question is do you chain piece all the strips together then cut them all at once. Stack all the sets then sew them together. Somehow I missed that part and can’t find it only the part about the last 5. If I understand all the blocks come out the same then you turn to arrange pattern. I think I need to go back to part 1 and watch again

My strips are only 15” to 16” but I do have them in order and chain them to build the blocks. I do this a little slower because I don’t want i don’t want to mess up the color order. Then I make the tube and cut in 2 1/2” strips. I think that’s where you came in on video #2. Here’s a link to #1 and thanks for watching😊❤️🐥 kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4XJfIikgK55fc0

Beautiful block pattern! I want to make one Where did you get that white board that you use to lay the strips on?
@sisterchicksquilting2 жыл бұрын
That is a design board I made. Foam core board covered in batting with glued on binding for the edge. Search for design boards on KZbin, you’ll find the directions to make one. Thank you for watching my channel 😊❣️

Bright and cheerful!!! I'm going to make one, of course! I know that you used 42 strips of each color,,,If I were to use the sam e 6 colors throughout, I think I'd be safe getting two yards of each color--what do ya think? Love the hst border on the other one!!! I'm now a subscriber, you go girl!!!!
@sisterchicksquilting2 жыл бұрын
Were you taking into account the width of each strip? 42 times 2.5” (the width of the strip) is 105”. That is just under 3 yards of fabric for each color. That will make a dramatic quilt depending on the values you get. I’d love to see it. Thanks for watching ❣️

@@sisterchicksquilting Instead of using jelly rolls, I'm planning to dip into my HUGE stash! I have mountains of Kaffe Fassett and other wonderful colorful fabrics that have been sitting around unused (Bit of illness--but healthy now!) Thanks for your encouragement and how-to video! I feel like I've made a new great friend! I'm not sure how to let you 'see it' when finished, but would be happy to! This quiltt's in my "top ten" list!

@@sisterchicksquilting Does the top really have 18 yards of fabric in it? That sounds like too much. I'm going to have to turn this over to my own engineer, he's really good at that cyphering thing. 🤣 6 colors 3 yards per color... 6x3=18 I'm going to make him figure in all the seam allowences too. The standard is ¼ inch, on all 4 sides of each square. It's after 2am and he's a regular person and goes to bed like regular people do. I'm up all night in my perfect world, so I'll have to present this to him in the morning which, in my world, is about noon. Maybe 1,we'll see.

Hi,I have jellyroll strips, can I sew down the entire length of the strip, then fold, cut and pick? (another newbie who can’t visualize) AND thank you for the video!
@sisterchicksquilting Жыл бұрын
Yes that is how you can use the jelly roll strips I would still arrange them in color groupings if you can. It’s the arranged color that gives the secondary design.

I thought more about my answer & your question. The blocks need to end up the same or on the same color ways to make it all work. Please, email me a picture when it’s done.

Hello Di, I was wondering how you were going to make a scrappy version of an around the world. I love what you came up with. It’s very colorful your fabric prices are so pretty. ❤️❤️❤️ What size square was that? 2”? Very striking design and I love it. ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for sharing, Chris

Thanks, glad you like it. I used 2.5” x 16” strips. After they are all sewn together I cut the loop in 2.5” loops. TFW❣️

I love your ideas, great quilts, very inspiring! But could you please turn your interlude music down a little? For me, it's a little jarring. Please keep up your wonderful videos!
