Thanks for history of the scrub plane….a ‘waste not, want not’ smooth plane conversion into a scrub plane.efficient recycling idea. Pronounced camber reduces effort and force necessary to hog off wood. Do you thick the thick newly manufactured blades are better than thinner old ones ?

Thanks for the video, full process is shown using common tools. Use a rubber eraser to unclog the diamond plate. Cutting works best once a slurry of metal particles is created, but they clog so wipe with cloth then clean with rubber eraser.

Hi I have the same diamond plate set up as you. I found that cutting a 3/4" inch paint brush right back to a short stub probably only 3/16" produces a great tool for cleaning the diamond plate. Just squirt a bit of dilute honerite or whatever solution you use on the stone and a quick scrub is all it takes. Much better than the pencil eraser they supply with the kit. Cheers, great video.

I hope you will continue providing interesting and satisfying content with more videos. I restored my grandfather wooden planes and I love using it. I'm looking to buy a cheap wooden plane to try to make a scrub plane (I don't want to change my grandfather's planes).

Great video. I came here because I’m converting an Ulmia smoothing plane to a scrub plane with a VERY LARGE radius. I wasn’t sure how or what to do with the chip breaker until I saw this. Thanks!

Great, thanks! Just finished the process on a wee plane with no chipbreaker and no makers mark (not even on the iron), it's lovely and I think it's one of those ones made by "someone, somewhere", but I had three to choose from and the lack of chipbreaker sealed its fate. But what an upgrade! Eats wood. I think I overdid the camber a bit, there's not much iron in play, but not gonna mess now. I'll reduce it slowly sharpening. Thanks! (I'm relying on your channel almost exclusively to go from zero decent planes to a full set, second hand purchases and a lot of restoration ... you've helped with every step!)

Fellow lover of old wooden planes here. Two suggestions: the music you add to videos takes away from the enjoyment of sound of the work. Which is why we are here. The second, is to be mindful of the umm's, ahhh's, errmmm's and so forth. You have a quality product, a niche market - have fun!
