Thank you so much! This is the first video, that I’ve come across, that addresses the changing of the shoulder slope, after other adjustments (time stamp 7:09). After I attached my sleeve, I discovered that my shoulder joint was straining against my garment. I was just thinking that I would have to go back to the drawing board, after several pattern adjustments (full bust, narrow shoulder, high round back). The problem did not become apparent until I attached the sleeve. I knew that I had to increase the fabric in this area, and your video explains the theory of why this is happening.

You need to make the same adjustment to the sleeve cap.

So interesting, how these changes have a ripple effect. If it's a sleeveless garment can't you just chop off 1" at the shoulder point so the slope stays the same??

It looks like the narrow shoulder adjustment might make the opening for the sleeve a bit larger for the sleeve. Although I haven’t tested it. What do you think?

Hi! I love your videos and recently listened to you on the Love To Sew podcast! I use a wide shoulder adjustment, but can't figure out if this can be done for a knit dolman style sleeve. I love dolmans, but find the necklines tend to "pull" out some at the shoulders. Thanks! 🙂

How would you correct for slope but keep the length correct? I need to add 2cm to length, so i imagine the slope will be affected

Thanks so much for a great video. I've just returned to sewing after many years and discovered the latest pattern I used does not fit as I expected. It is far to wide on shoulders and big on bust and tighter than expected on hips. I fear there are too many adjustments to make on this project but luckily I only used a piece of material I have had for ages and not too bothered about it failing. For future though I am now worried I will have to make so many adjustments it's going to be beyond my skills. When we were taught at school....many years ago ....all the adjustments were made to the garment at fitting stage and not to the actual pattern so I'm really struggling.

Hey Alexandra! This is super clear! But... I'm working on a men's jacket, I need to shorten the shoulders by about half an inch on each side. In a men's jacket the seam line is not at the top of the shoulder, but about an inch behind, so I'm not sure the pivoting will work. What do you think?

Hi... What is the significance of shoulder dart? How does it affect the fitting? Also can you please explain the importance of notches on the armholes and the sleeve head.... How to determine the positions of these notches? Thank you.

The shoulder dart is there to address the shoulder blade. Without it there is usually a slightly gaping neckline or armhole. The rounder the upper back area is, the larger the dart will need to be to accommodate it. The notches in the armhole guide you in setting the sleeve into the bodice. Unfortunately, this isn't possible to do in most cases, it is better to choose a larger size in this case and adjust other areas unless of course, you have some seam allowances you can work with.

Where did the armhole notches come from? Were they on the pattern? Or did you draw them on?
