The house is beautiful. They are so lucky to find skilled craftsmen. This is something to think about when selecting a piece of property. We are building in a rural area where skills in certain areas are very limited so had to go with what skills we could find with regard to construction methods and finishes. IMO these are only as good as the skills of the workers. We are happy with how our house turned out but some of our choices would have been different if we had a wider variety of skilled workers available.

When you said stucco I thought, how to make a farmhouse look like a farmhouse with stucco but you did it. It doesn't look like a hacienda on a mountain either, it looks like a beautiful home on a mountain built to withstand the weather conditions while looking awesome! When I look at the thumbnails of this house and the concrete pillars, it amazes me they came from a materials stash left by the previous owner. You’ve shown us reuse videos a couple of times. Thanks for reinforcing that everything doesn’t have to be brand new.

The house is looking great! We chose to do the same thing but in light grey for the walls, dark grey for the window trim and burgundy for the door trim. Love the ICF system, the house is nice and quiet, you never get cold drafts in the winter, and upkeep is minimal. Don’t understand why most homes aren’t like this. Safer when in tornado or hurricane areas as well! Keep up the great work!

Stone and stucco are the hardest and most tricky to get right, you MUST have a quality moisture barrier to prevent water from penetrating. Yet you also must allow moisture to escape through as well to prevent rot from the inside out. Your choice with the icf and the Durock concrete board is about the best available. Well thought out sir.

Great video. Guys look to know their craft. Here in Southern California, 30 minutes ago, we had a 4.6 earthquake that was centered 10 miles from my house. It picked up a 10 unit two story townhouse complex and bounced it up and down for 10 seconds. Everybody runs for the door jams or outside. Pet bird freaked out, 150 gallon reef tank in my living room did good.

What was the main reason you didn’t do 100% ICF. i.e., wood framed second floor walls and roof trusses. If you were to do it over, and hindsight being what it is, would you have preferred to do the 2nd story in ICF too? What about the roof? I know it is not popular to use ICF decking for pitched roofs but do you think it is doable? Reasonable or not? Feasible, considering the cost of lumber?

Main reason at the time was cost but I would do the second floor in ICF and still stick build the roof because it’s easier with gables and dormers.
