Hello, first off…great blade! Love the shape and colors. I did have a question about the acid bath. You first submerged the blade prior to handles…but I would assume that when working on the handle shaping, you would inevitably remove the acid wash from the tang. Did you redid the handle with the micarta after you were done to keep the even finish?

Yup, I just go back with a Q-Tip and re-etch the tang.

I've always wanted to make some knives. I have in the past worked as a gunsmith, and one of the things I did alot of was making pistol grips. I'm thinking a checkered handle would be awesome. Your thoughts?

Like your way and design I'm on DIY as I'm trying to learn. Please if possible as I'm trying to listen for information about DIY. Understand that drilling, hammer, grinding NOISE I GET ENOUGH FROM MY GARAGE AND FORGE. OFTEN I'll turn off the video or volume and then can't hear what is being taught. Don't you remember instructor stopping work to instruct the students. Yeah other than Noise a very good video .As I'm alone and not disturbing family. Thanks for the teaching Sir

Do you need to heat treat file metal when using it to make a knife? Of so why? I would have thought it is hard enough already. Sorry for noob question.
@theriversexperience9383
@theriversexperience9383 3 жыл бұрын
It helps to anneal the files before working with them to save on abrasives and drill bits. You could always just anneal the tang to be able to drill the holes for the handle pins though. I will typically anneal 3-4 files at once and make a few knives at a time.
@KrachWerke
@KrachWerke 3 жыл бұрын
@@theriversexperience9383 So if I understand this correclty the file is hard enough for a knife but tempering it in an over twice at around 200C makes it more easier to work with and tougher? (Not harder)

The thing you need when drilling steel is the right rpm for your drill size and most importantly to keep your drills from overheating/dulling is coolant, lubricant or something that does both.
