Almost got it on this one ! when making the bow make one side completely flat or even angled inward so the string rides on one side not the center this will reduce string drag and make the bolt much faster the plywood bow worked great just another half bow laminated to the previous one will double the strength easy. the round tumbler in the trigger setup needs to be wider so you can have a notch in the center for the bolt to sit at the string.... you do not want the bow string to impact the bolt as it will bounce the flight in unpredictable ways. the tumbler on my crossbow is about 1"~1 1/4" wide to allow a strong hold on the bow string and a notch for the arrow/bolt, the tumbler is wooden but the trigger is aluminum for strength . the notch on the tumbler had to be reinforced with a screw however (for the trigger release.) Did you notice how much faster the arrows flew from this crossbow because of the straighter bow configuration ? I know it surprised me when I discovered it ! I was used to the commercial versions with a really bent bow.... that is wrong a straighter bow is much better because it pushes the arrow longer when fired. bow configuration, string riding on the stock and length of draw all make for a great cross bow.... also angling the top of the stock in toward the arrow recess from the side helps reduce string drag. you can't get rid of all the string drag but you can reduce it a long way.

I did this a year ago in a carpentry class in highschool. Times havent changed as much as you think, its just that youre not young anymore, and the probably the only notable times you see young people is when their doing something stupid.

​@Murimz Woodworking, metalshop, and autoshop classes have been dropped from the majority of middle and high-schools. Most school districts do not want the liability. Too many kids lost fingers, and in the sue happy culture they don't want the risk. If you live in a very ruel area maybe, but I would be very surprised if one of the few high-schools that may still offer those electives would condone a weapon being made in class for the same reason, not to mention, now you have a weapon on school grounds which will never fly in today's world.

@@WoodworkingStudio Hey the crossbow and craftsmanship is great 👌be safe, I reckon you could make one with a safety on, personally own a few Xbows, learnt the hard way after shooting a bolt through my garage door across the car park and it stuck into the back of my neighbours brick wall three inches deep, I was very fortunate none of the kids were out on their bike could of been nasty.

I will chime in and say that you are correct his tools he used aren't simple ones that every has, but if you buy a wired skilsaw US is around $60, a curved chisel or even a straight narrow tip chisel for the bolt chanel, a hand drill from the flea market you can still accomplish this for under $150. I built a small make shift table saw using the skilsaw and some scrap MDF or particle board.
