can you see planets with this?
@epicfantasy13 жыл бұрын
@415p2 I haven't tried it but the 30 cm fl lens should be good too. The 30 is the focal length.

@00lightbulb yes, I have the mirrors to make bigger telescopes. One mirror is 8 inches in diameter. Those will be fun projects. Going to do vids.
@epicfantasy15 жыл бұрын
Yes, this telescope inverts the image, comes upside down. if you want a right side up image you have to use a double convex lens and a plano concave lens. Or a double concave lens. Hope that helps!

You are amazing, it's people like you that are blessings. I admire you so much, thank you for taking your time and making these wonderful as well as fantastic videos! God bless you!

possibly, but you can get bigger rolls. magnifyiing glasses come in different sizes too.

@madebo1294 YEs, the sliding allows you to find the focus. Only way to see clearly.

@ignilc This is an excellent question and difficult to answer. You probably mean Saturn's Rings? Part of it depends on how clear your night sky is and how dark. But I am not really sure. Maybe, 25ish?

@Dragon1813 the upside down is normal

You can use a little gap that youcan create with your hand as a lense. Just tried it and it worked.

@lavonminor Grats on making the telescope! Yes, it is an inverted image. Used for astronomy! You can correct this by changing one of the lenses to a double concave.

on amazon. Might want to try american science and surplus too.

@Icklumpus great comment. But, isn't that the focal length? and to use the thin lens formula to get the magnification and focal length you need both radii of the lenses. difficult to figure unless given to you. Great comment though.

Thanks, fun little project! I bought a telescope mirror with an eight inch diameter. Going to make a very big telescope. Will be a fun series of videos.

well the image will be inverted for closer objects but if u want to look at distance objects like moon and stars they appear the same even if inverted so it wont b an issue

have you ever observed some exoplanet transits maybe by doing photometry or something similar? oh i forgot to introduce myself I`m a 15 year old student from southtirol in the northern italy and i am in the astronomy team of the school and maybe we will have the opportunity to go to a congress about exoplanet transits next year but my english is not so good yet i hope that I will learn some astronomical-words until that moment. yours is my favorite youtube channel:)

I suggest putting a long slot in the side of the inner tube and fitting a bolt into it through the outer tube so that it won't fall out the other side
@epicfantasy14 жыл бұрын
@ElizabethGama31 amazon has them. Links are on my website too. You can also buy kits that have the tubes and lenses.

no need to fix it. It doesn't matter for stargazing. But, to get a right side up image you will need to replace one of the lenses with another type.

How about a video or some pictures of how this little homebuilt telescope operates?
@epicfantasy14 жыл бұрын
@2583654 not a whole lot but thats ok. Take the telescope out on a dark night and enjoy the night sky. Best thing with that telescope would be to take it out and look at the moon when it is only a sliver. You should be able to see some craters. Not during a full moon, just when moon is half or less. You can see mars, jupiter and saturn with just your eyes, the telescope will help some.

The length of the tube depends on the focal length of the lenses. The telescope has to be able to slide, so you can focus it
@epicfantasy13 жыл бұрын
@DUMBTVSHOWS This kind of lens configuration only reverses the image. so that's normal. People sometimes see it and think something is wrong. To get a right side up image you need a more complex lens setup.
@epicfantasy14 жыл бұрын
@begginersluck Thanks for viewing. Magnifying glasses can be tricky to use. You are going to have to experiment with them and use different tube lengths. And two lenses of the same diameter will be ok. About finding the lenses for this exact project. i have links to them through amazon on my telescope nerd website.

Hello sir, Your video is most helpful then any other video on you tube when it comes to home made telescopes.But i am a bit confused in choosing lenses. My questions are: 1- I have a Magnify lens size of a human palm, can i use it for my telescope? 2- Can we use both lenses of same focal length & diameter ? 3- Is Plano concave & Convex concave setup is more effective in magnification? 4- Can we use a very big magnify lens like one used by detectives in movies ? The best part of your video is when you teach us about lenses at least now i know about concave,convex,double convex & Plano convex. Thanx :)

can u do this with 2 of the same lens?? im trying to do this for a school project and im wondering if that would work
@viktorgustavsson816410 жыл бұрын
The angular magnification can be calculated by dividing the focal length of the first lens with the focal length of the second lens, thus if you have two lenses of the same kind the magnification will be x1 (no magnification). So, nope.
@neoanimalia8847 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can but the focal length of objective lens should be greater than of eye piece.
@epicfantasy13 жыл бұрын
@oel97 probably not.

@snowcrystal2510 Good job on the telescope. The eyepiece lens shoudl be about 50 cm away from the objective. We make a sliding tube telescope so you can just adjust that as you need it. With a 10x telescope you should see some fun stuff like craters on the moon and a coouple of plantets like jupiter and saturn.
