How to Make a Smoke Machine

I got a Engine Check light on my 2003 Toyota Matrix, it was P0440 . That means I have a small leak in my EVAP system. Easiest way to find this leak usually to use Smoke machine and look for the smoke. As usual I wanted to make one myself. After looking around on the webs I got a paint can cleat tubing couple of connectors. I did not want to pay for Vape system wire, so I used the stainless hanging wire I had laying around. I did not get the smoke coming out of the problem area on my gas tank on video, but turned out to be a return from evap system to tank rusted out and broke off. I did not want to replace my tank so I used Gas tank epoxy to repair the area. After finishing I wanted to make a cheaper version with glass casing. it's so sad that people are grilling this poor guy about what wire was used, if they just read the description, he gives you not only what kind he uses but where to get it and how much it cost. really!!! come on people, I know your smarter then that. Great Video! You should have used JB Weld instead of a glue since the bucket tend to get REAL host and melt the glue!

bubba dam yes they are. with a reminder that it is not for long runs(you should find your leak in 5 min usually)

How did u NOT GET A SHORT WHEN U DROPPED THE WICK AND COIL IN THE CAN? THE COIL LOOKS LIKE IT RESTS ON THE BOTTOM OF CAN CAUSING A SHORT? JUST WEAR OVEN MITTENS SO U DON'T BURN UR HAND! HOPE U HAVE A IN LINE FUSE FOR PROTECTION!!

For this 12v DC setup: It doesn't short because the resistance of the oil is so much higher than the coil itself, even as the coil builds heat. Heck, I think the oil even has higher resistance than our own bodies.

You haven't slowed which battery your using,the negative positive wire should not be passed through the tin cap,it should be insulated

Whats wrong with this video? The most important part of the assembly is buried in the description and then the description is scanty. The most important part is the wire. What gauge, what material? copper?

I used Nichrome 60 (28 GA) at a length of 9 inches for mine. No battery was able to produce steady power to make it smoke though. I’m running it with a lab power supply.
