What an awesome video boss ! You should make a video of making a full mold box with a real 2.5" inch shad ? It's something I always wanted to do ! That's the best side for speckled trout and red fish !

I just came across this video and it is going to save me from paying a lot to get molds from the States. Thank you so much!! My boys and I will try it out this weekend.

Great video. I just bought a few injection molds and started shooting my own baits. These hand pour molds will be nice for making 2 tone baits. Kind of a dumb question but what do you use to clean the fibreglass residue left in the pyrex measuring cup after you are done pouring the mold?

Great vid. Excellent to encourage people to reuse their plastics instead of discarding. Really though....we all want to know how to pour a Falkor!

How do you find the homemade poured baits hold up vs. the one you purchase new in the package? One note about your respirator. It looks like a dust mask. Dust masks filter out dust and carbon particulate. What you need is a respirator with a P100 organic cartridge the remove the plastic fumes. A dust mask is better than no mask, but if you want complete protection from plastic fumes go with the P100. Great advice about not using your home microwave. I am sure people would have or may still be doing that. Good video and will give this a try
@JMFishing6 жыл бұрын
Evan K I noticed that too. Dust mask wont help much. A good vapour cartridge mask would work great...
@SteveRowbothamfishing6 жыл бұрын
Durability is identical. The plastic doesnt really lose the quality. Thanks for the advice on mask. I'll look into it

If you are going to make a lot of fibreglass moulds you can go to an auto supply store that supplies auto body shops and buy resin by the gallon.
@gboat772 жыл бұрын
When your done with a resin mold and pouring plastic can you heat the mold with a heat gun or hot plate, like with aluminum molds ?
@thehalfcastfisherman73864 жыл бұрын
Do you have a flat spot on the baits where they were glued down??
@SteveRowbothamfishing2 жыл бұрын
Yes. With hand pour molds like this, you need a flat side

What’d you do different from that first casting you showed from the second one? Just buff it down? One looks smoother than the other
@adamktm9274 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the idea! im from around you and was looking to get into making baits but its just so expensive ordering molds from the states. Hopefully the turn out good! you ever use heat stabilizer or anything or do they always re-melt ok
@SteveRowbothamfishing4 жыл бұрын
Different plastics seem to melt differently, but usually melt down fine

You should have sprayed or painted the pan and lures with Pam, Vaseline, or glycerine prior to pouring your resin, it will be easier to pull the bait after cure.
@laughingloonfishing48386 жыл бұрын
Do you or can you add salt or garlic or grinds to this process or will it effect the plastics ?
@SteveRowbothamfishing6 жыл бұрын
Laughin Loon Fishin you can, but most of the plastic I'm recycling has lots of salt anyways
@kevinschmitt23105 жыл бұрын
It does effect the baits. One salt makes them sink which is the number one reason for salt not for taste to the fish like a lot of people think. But second it does cause them to want to tear more easily. The more salt the more they will want to tear. It's like little razors inside the plastic which is why your senkos tear up so badly. Almost all senkos are made with heavy amounts of salt to get them to sink hence their name senkos. Other than the tear factor if you want them to sink quicker than no salt go for it.
@gregmitchell31975 жыл бұрын
Question for you, when you make baits in your fiberglass molds do they come out shiny if not do you know what you can do to make them that way? Thanks
@SteveRowbothamfishing5 жыл бұрын
I add a spray of Pam or something to the mold before pouring
@kevinschmitt23105 жыл бұрын
If lubing them doesn't give you the shine you want just melt down some brand new plastisol. It turns perfectly clear when heated to around the 360 mark. Then just dip your baits into is once real quick and let it drip into the Pyrex cup. They will shine better than most store bought baits and if you do this after you put the eyes on like swimbaits and the suck they will NEVER be able to fall off on you ever again. Two birds with one stone my friend.

Great video. Question, when you glue the baits into pan before you pour the resin wouldn’t it be a good idea to lubricate the lures to make them release from the resin once it sets up or will this affect the mold in the way your baits turn out? Thanks
@SteveRowbothamfishing5 жыл бұрын
I tried lubing them once but the mold wouldn't dry properly and the mold was lumpy.
@TrazCook6 жыл бұрын
Great Video Steve! Thanks for sharing, I will definitely be doing this. I was just curious, does this break any patent laws since you are essentially copying a bait? Wouldn’t want to see you get into any trouble since you actually named baits you were making.

Traz Cook I'm not selling anything so I cant see how or why it would be a legal issue.
