What keeps the rod from bending when a big fish hits one of the sides, and decides to chew on it with drag? Also, what is the main top rod made of (I assume stainless steel) and what size? Really like the video, gonna make one, but just wanted to ask. Thanks!

Well, the design has a “V” in it to support the stainless bar, but the hook is inline, so the drag of a fish would pull off that. Any bait with no hook would be spit out or just fall out of a fish’s mouth.

If it was me I would have started with the front to the back you're not playing with the swivel and crimp together. And you can't use a thread needle put the mono in the needle and push through the top

Where do you find the stainless rods at that length? Most of the welding rods that are made of ER316 steel are only 36 inches long. What size sleeved swivels did you use and where did you buy it from? The largest I found was 3/0 and it shows an outer diameter of 3mm which is less than the 1/8" rod diameter (3.2mm) Where did you buy that squid from? The hoochies are easier to find, but this squid with the stripped pattern seems harder to find.

You definitely can, that would help at 3-5 mph or if your rod tip is very close to the freeboard…. If you troll this rig from higher rod holders or an outrigger with a super sturdy snap release it will bounce in top no problem at all, the stainless rod is robust and durable but i really want to try this rig with carbon fiber or a super light fiberglass, therefor decreasing weight….. but for the price of stainless, it is a great argument to just use it and catch fish and worry about other stuff😂

A bird probably wouldn’t do much other than help it have lift in the water, which is not a bad addition, but isn’t totally necessary and is an extra expense. And for squids, amazon, or ebay, or cabelas, or a local saltwater tackle shop will have them. I hope yours turns out well!

To put your skirts on the line use a needle so it will gide your line and it will be more easy

This promotes Winching using a very heavy rod and line and winching using the rod holder ,rail,or over the gunnel to fight the fish..If this is you then I sudjest you take up golf..Fishing is a sport..And this is unsportsmanlike..Are you that desperate to catch a fish..Use a teaser with a rod and lure set up behind it..And Use a line appropriate for the size of the fish..Tight lines
