Hello🙋‍♂️Thanks for the info. I just tried your demo here. I didn’t have any hardboard but had a few pieces of old Lauan plywood which is basically wall panelling. It was 1/8 thick. 3.6 mm. I used double sided tape to secure it to a piece of pine,cut a couple letters,cleaned the edges up with some sanding sticks,and held the template down with double sided tape and sprayed the letters. The lauan cut clean with no stress on the bit. Thanks again for another fine idea👍

For stencil cutting a game changer for me was a vinyl cutting machine (Cameo). Initial cost 300+-.It gave me the ability to take any image, picture, logo from the web and cut a stencil on non permanent vinyl. Customers can send me a pic of their custom image request, and i can edit/adjust/re size and have a stencil cut in 10 minutes ready to spray and carve. It paid for itself in a couple weeks.

I use the thin plastic poster board from Michaels and my Cricut and make reusable stencils from that.

Great idea, think I can use this. And you are so right about using the lines under the letters. It helps so much to get everything even.

Howdy Mr. Rohten... Good video!!! 👍 Thank You. Question: A few videos back, I'd say in the past week or 2, yall did a sign and used that clear spray as normal, but yall said that particular sign was going to be used outside in the weather and that yall didn't know how that Clear would perform. Remember that video? So, I'm curious. It's been a week or 2. How's that outdoor sign handling being out in the weather? I figured it would start crackling after awhile??? Can you give us an update on that? Thanks 😊

Hey Mike! It's been holding up just fine. However, we haven't had the harsh desert sun on it yet, so We'll have to wait and see how it does in those conditions.

Do you router into the final work-piece through the stencil? In other words, is your text grooved into the wood as a guide ?

Great question! We only use the stencil for the layout. We don't use it to carve. Everything we carve is freehand

My mom owns a campsite and she wanted lot signs made but she wanted them to glow at night when lights hit them I couldn't find the right paint for that do you have any advice on what I can use and can I just add it to the signs I already made or do I have to make all new signs

What is"hardboard"so u know what to look for when I go to home Depot? This is a great video as I have been wondering about how to do this for awhile now!!
@oldave100
@oldave100 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Judy. It's just a 1/8" veneer type of deal. If you ask for that at home depot or lowe's they should know what you're referring to.

Hello. How would mdf work for a stencil?
@oldave100
@oldave100 Жыл бұрын
I don't think they make MDF in 1/8" sheets, and you really want to use thin material. The hardboard is super cheap and pretty tough so I think that's your best bet
