I just started several months ago after watching several videos on the channel and I cannot say how much you need that base plate! I find it so much easier using that plate to carve everything (letters, pictures, etc.) because you can see it so much better and have better control of the router!

This is a great kit and got me started off well! I'm only going to add three things that a beginner will need in order to be successful: hearing protection, eye protection, and practice, practice, practice. 🙂

You forgot the 4th way to get started carving signs which would be to subscribe to your channel and watch all the videos. If I had not stumbled across you and your dad years ago I definitely would not be where I am with my carving. Thanks for all you have done for all of us over the years.

I wish we could have a 7/8" bit with a 1/4" shank and it could go in about 1" deep. But we'd probably need a massive safety vest and OSHA regulated head gear to do it but man, the saw dust would be so sweet.

Just put clear packing take on the struts. I also put masking tape on my clamps to prevent them from staining the wood where they contact the glue. I determine the length based on the width of the board.

I wonder if you could maybe put a small hole or holes in the glass so the humidity that may build up has a way to escape.

We'd have to raise the entire piece above the carving and that would cause a whole bunch of other issues

If you are now just keeping it inside, why wouldn't the one shot paint hold up? Being honest, it looked better black. It played with the script and balanced it. At least looking at video anyway....maybe different in person. I thought the One Shot was exterior but I guess the glass cooked it. Interesting. Merry Christmas guys!
