Brilliant little clamp! :D I love the fact there's no pissing about with buckles and catches, it's just one strap which you loosen at one end, then pull back tight before cinching down on the clamp handle :)

Quite clever John and in my opinion a bit more user friendly than the ratchet based strap clamps one buys in the store. Then there's the satisfaction of having made it yourself. Well done!

I agree, there is also the bonus of not having the metal parts of the purchased strap, destroying the piece you are clamping.

_One time, at band clamp..._ That was an awesome project. Imagine using ¼" acrylic for a top cover, just to see its innards. By the way, really liking the blue saw/work table in the back: it's nice to look at, and it helps both depth & clarity. I watch from a laptop, and I can't stand how overexposed everyone's videos seem to have become; sometimes it's like I have sawdust and sun in my eyes while watching.
@JohnHeisz
@JohnHeisz 6 жыл бұрын
I considered the clear plastic, actually, but didn't want to put people off the build thinking they need it to make the clamp. I also briefly thought about making one completely from metal, but again that wouldn't sell any plans. Or would it? Maybe I should make a metal one to see. Don't know about "everyone's" videos, but for the most part mine aren't overexposed. I do brighten them up some, since that generally provides a more pleasant viewing experience for most people. It's much like thumbnails - people are more inclined to click on ones that are light coloured and bright, as opposed to dark.

I bought the plans, and I'm going to batch out 3 or 4 of these this weekend but I'm also really considering making a steel version with a heavier band/longer travel. I have no idea what I'd use it for, but it sounds like fun. I'd totally buy plans all over again for your own metal version.

Great clamp and simple to make. A tip - when epoxying a threaded rod into a blind hole, eg the handle, rotate the threaded rod in an anticlockwise direction, this forces the epoxy down to the bottom of the hole, seems counter intuitive, however when you rotate the threaded rod as though you were screwing it into the hole the epoxy 'climbs' out of the hole.
